General Impressions of Willemstad, the capital of Curacao

Curacao is a beautiful island of the Dutch Antilles with Willemstad as its capital. It is rather clouded in this tropical Caribbean region but we try to make good pictures to provide a first impression of this warm hearted island.

We start with a row of colorful houses on the other side of the Queen Emma Pontoon. The sea is a bit rough but inside the port we are into a surprise. The is a floating bridge which turns almost 90 degrees to let ships sail by like the enormous Holland America cruise liner.

A bit further we arrive at the local fresh market and fisher’s port. We are going further away from the tourist area we seek contact with the local. Don’t forget, we speak our own language here. Now it is time to find a taxi to visit some of the island attractions.

  2. For me, the buildings and houses are the star today! So cheerfully and beautifully painted! No one could ever get lost here, because each building is a different pretty color. But some are so close to the sea!! What if there were a huge wave or a flood?
