We were very happy to see this board for Cultural Understanding, and the Open Doors, Open Mind sign. Until now we were not allowed to enter any Mosque in Dubai and we tried three times. Also here the doors were closed for non-Muslims. Only four days in the week at 10:00 in the morning with a guided tour, you are allowed in. We were not pleased with this. Dubai claims to be open, trying to attract more and more tourists but doesn’t allow non-Muslims to look into their mosques. This is a pity. The cultural understanding doors are only open for four hours a week. The mosque itself from the outside was very beautiful. We wrote 50 articles on this blog about the UAE, it was a great experience of a country with a friendly population.

Your articles on the UAE were outstanding and your photos gorgeous. I really enjoyed looking at how much Dubai has changed since I went there in the 1980s – it’s like a completely different place. Great posts.
Gosh, rather hypocritical. It say open minds, but they won't open their doors. However I may be making a hasty judgement. Maybe their religion says no one who is not Muslim can attend services?
ReplyDeleteWe had no problems in Turkey. Went into several Mosques...
ReplyDeleteI do like looking at the intricate architecture. I've enjoyed your Dubai visit.
ReplyDeleteSuch great clean lines and then intricate detail on that building.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos.
ReplyDeleteMosques I find it amazing that one can't visit when we want to. Makes me wonder, have they something to hide. Yet in some Muslim countries its ok from what I am told.
Very beautiful on the outside, must be stunning on the inside.
ReplyDeleteThe sign "Open mind and Open doors" doesn't make sense if one can't easily go in.
ReplyDeleteExcellent architecture, and I love mosque !
ReplyDeleteBlue skies and white, ornately carved buildings, what could be more beautiful.
ReplyDeletePS: Lots of Christian churches in the UK have shut their doors to the casual visitor.

thanks for the trip around UAE. Stunning photos and a good eye opener. Shame their door wasn't open for you.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea you were not allowed to go in as just a visitor, such a shame. The outside is beautiful, I'm s ure the inside must be just as exquisite.

ReplyDeleteGroetjes Cristien.
thats what I had heart as well before...indeed its easier to understand these facts when you think of it as a religious place, not a sightseeing place;
ReplyDeleteThe Grand mosque is just magnificent. This design really amazes me. This is such a bold and a one of a kind architectural idea. Really nice.
