During our visit in Istanbul we saw some protest but nothing as extreme as what we see now on the television. The YouTube fragment below shows people receiving first aid in the Dolmabahce Mosque after the protests on the Taksim Square. We are surprised because this mosque is about 1,5 km always from the main protest area.
The feeling of serving and supporting people is completely in sink with our impressions of this mosque. The Imam and men working here were super friendly and even tolerant for some disrespectful visitors. They made some remarks but never got agitated.
The Dolmabahce Mosque is built in baroque style and completed in 1855. It is located close to the Dolmabahce Palace and has two giant minarets. The interior with its grand chandelier is fantastic. Let’s hope that peace will return soon to Istanbul and that it doesn’t escalate again after the Ramadan.

ReplyDeleteThey must be very passionate about their cause.
Lovely photos! Am glad that the mosque is a place for the injured to seek refuge...don't like the idea of violence but when it happens...at least there is a place for them to seek refuge.
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely incredible chandelier this is.
ReplyDeleteAlso that is a pretty powerful video. Would not really want to be visiting when this occurred.
