German Open 2013 – International Dance Sport Festival, Stuttgart

The German Open Championships dancing have started and this is a world class event. For the tenth year in a row the event is held in the Stuttgarter Liederhalle. There are competitions in all age classes for amateurs and professionals. This is the biggest dance event in the world with more than 5.000 participating couples.

On Saturday the Preciosa WDSF Grandslam Standard final and the World Championship Boogie Woogie will be broadcasted live via SWR and Eurosport 2. As Ballroom dancers our interest goes mainly out to the Standard competitions.

We loved the professional event on Tuesday won by Mirko Gozzoli and Edita Daniute. They were in a continuous battle with the newly professionals Benedetto Ferruggia and Claudia Koehler. Both couples were so eager that they had to be reminded of the rules of fairplay by the chairmen. The entertainment level was extremely high and the public went crazy.

The second evening we were into a surprise when Stefano Bernardini and Stefania Martellini won from the World Champions Tassilo Lax and Sabine Lax in the Senior I age class. We are already looking forward to next year when we will dance in the Senior I. On lower level off course.

Below you find some pictures and impressions of WDSF Grandslam Latin 1st round and the Adult Rising Star Standard 2nd round. We also added a video of the Slowfox Professional Final recorded by the WDSF.

  5. I am so glad you will be dancing again, then I will be seeing YOU in the competition pictures. This building is lovely. And also it is fun looking at the dancers' expressions. Some are having lots of fun and just dancing for fun. Others are stressed out and trying very hard.
