The Ijzerleen together with the Bruul are the two main shopping streets of Mechelen. On Saturdays mornings is the Ijzerleen completely occupied by the weekly market. This together with the shops and a crowd looking for bargains draws the attention away from the beauty above the ground floor of this street. The facades of houses are just amazing. The decorations are in the form of gold battered shields, carved stone, statues, unconventional forms and shapes of the top facade, unique windows, symbols…. If interested you could spend a long time trying to find out the history of each house.
