Birds and Iguanas at Gardner Bay, Espanola Island

Wildlife in the Galapagos is exceptional. During each hike we are amazed of the beauty and fearlessness of the animals. They have no human enemies here and the islands are protected against high volume tourism. Land visits are not permitted without license and guide.

On this fabulous beach of Gardner Bay we saw some birds and fresh tracks of a giant tortoise who laid her eggs in the sand. Just look at the prints in the sand with the sea and sun in the background.

A bit further we find large groups of iguanas. They all have grey, black and red colors. We particularly like our picture of the iguana on the green seaweed rocks.

De dieren op de Galapagos eilanden zijn exceptioneel. Tijdens elke wandeling zijn we verbaasd van de schoonheid en angstloosheid van de dieren. Zij hebben hier geen menselijke vijanden en de eilanden zijn beschermd tegen massa toerisme. Zonder vergunning en gids is dit verboden terrein.

Op het prachtige strand van Gardner Bay zagen we enkele vogels en de verse sporen van een reuze schildpad die haar eieren in het zand begraven had. Kijk eens naar de afdrukken in het zand met de zee en zon op de achtergrond. 

Iets verder zien we grote groepen leguanen. Ze hebben zwarte, grijze en rode kleuren op hun huid. In het bijzonder vinden we de foto met de leguaan op de groene zeewier rotsen heel leuk.

Bird spotting on Punta Suarez, Espanola Island, Galapagos

In one of our previous articles, we already showed some pictures of the Albatross on Espanola Island. This time we took pictures of many different species: frigate, swallow tailed gull, finches, naca boobies and Galapagos dove. The most beautiful picture birds are from Nazca Boobies with their little fluffy chicks and close-ups. We also like the shot of the two birds passing each other in full flight. Exceptionaly lucky to take such a picture.

In één van onze vorige artikelen toonden we reeds enkele foto's van de Albatros op Espanola Island. Deze keer trokken we foto's van meerdere soorten: : frigate, swallow tailed gull, finches, naca boobies and Galapagos dove. De meest mooie zijn de Nasca Boobies met hun pluizige kuikens en close-up impressies. We houden ook van het beeld waarop twee vogels elkaar kruisen in volle vlucht. Extreem veel geluk om zo'n foto te kunnen maken.

Great pictures of an albatross on the Galapagos Islands

We are at Punta Suarez on Espanola Island of the Galapagos in Ecuador. Hiking this small region for a few hours gave us so many great impressions that we are going to publish four articles about it. Today we focus on the rocky part of the island with high cliffs and blow holes. The rough waters of the Pacific Ocean enter the underwater caves and spray the water tens of meters in the air via the so called blow holes. A spectacle of nature. Between the rocks you see giant red crabs.

The highlight of this article is however the Albatross. One of the rarest birds on earth. They sometime stays for months in the air and exceptionally come on land. There is one occasion during the mating period, the Albatross returns to his partner. It is the only bird in the world who always returns to the same breeding partner. Sometimes they wait weeks until the encounter takes place. We took a few pictures of the female standing on the rocks and the male flying, high above, with its wingspan of more than 3 meters. I was very happy to bring my tele lens, this was a once in a lifetime opportunity. We were extremely lucky.

Wij zijn aan Punta Suarez op Espanola Island van de Galapagos in Ecuador. Enkele uren wandelen op deze plaats gaf ons zo vele indrukken dat we hier vier artikelen over gaan publiceren. Vandaag tonen we u het rotsachtige gedeelte van het eiland met hoge kliffen en spuitgaten. De ruwe golven van de Stille Oceaan stromen de onder water gelegen grotten binnen en spuiten het water verder aan land tientallen meters de hoogte in via zogenaamde spuitgaten. Een spektakel van de natuur. Op de rosten zie je reusachtige rode krabben. 

Het hoogtepunt van dit artikel is echter de Albatros. Eén van de zeldzaamste vogels op aarde. Zij blijven soms maanden na elkaar in de lucht zweven en komen zelden aan land. Er is slechts één mogelijkheid tijdens het paringsseizoen, wanneer de Albatros terug keert naar zijn partner. Het is de enige vogel ter wereld die altijd nest met dezelfde partner. Soms wachten ze weken vooraleer ze elkaar terug ontmoeten.

The beauty of animals on Punta Morena, Galapagos

Punta Morena is located on Isabela Island of the Galapagos. There are no people in sight, only a great variety of animals. We are sharing our first pictures with you of the cormorants nesting, a large groups of marine iguanas and colorful crabs fighting. Nature is fascinating and worth treasuring.

Punta Morena is gelegen op Isabela Island op de Galapagos. Er zijn hier geen mensen in de buurt, enkel een grote verscheidenheid aan dieren. We delen met jullie onze beste foto’s van de aalscholvers die nesten, de zeeleguanen en kleurrijke krabben die vechten. De natuur is fascinerend en dit moeten we koesteren.
