Salvador Dali Jewelry, Figueres

Next to the Dali museum, there is a small jewelry exhibition. Also this sanctuary is created by the Spanish artist. He uses pictures of women dressed in black, white skin and most of the time combined with red precious stones. The jewelry is special, only unique pieces. Some of the pieces are to be worn, others like the long legged elephant, are only for museums.

Naast het Dali museum is er een klein kunstgalerij met juwelen. Dit is een heiligdom gecreëerd door dezelfde Spaanse artiest. Hij gebruikt foto's van vrouwen gekleed in het zwart, witte huid en meestal rode edelstenen. De juwelen zijn speciaal en unieke stukken. Sommige juwelen kan men dragen, andere zoals de langpotige olifant zijn pure museum stukken.

Walking through Figueres at night

After a late dinner, which is normal in Spain, we felt like taking a walk. It was one of those rare occasions I brought my tripod, so we could try to take some night shots. The facade of Teatre Jardi was nice and some street art. One of the butcher shops was still full of activity. No wonder their meat is of excellent quality.

Na een laat avondmaal, wat normaal is in Spanje, gingen we nog een wandeling maken. Het was één van die uitzonderlijke momenten dat ik mijn tripod meegenomen had, we konden dus proberen enkele nachtfoto's te maken. De gevel van het Jardi theater en wat straatkunst waren mooi. In een slagerij was men steeds druk aan het werk. Het is niet verwonderlijk dat de Spaanse vleeswaren van uitstekende kwaliteit zijn.

Teatre Museu Dali Art, Figueres

This museum is the main attraction of the northern Spanish city Figueres. The museum is fully focusing on the art of Salvador Dali and his students. The architecture as well as the art are made by this extravagant genius. The line between geniality and madness is however very thin.

Dali's paintings are fascinating, a fantasy world with lots of details. Many paintings we liked, ..... others too strange. When an artist would create this now in the 21st century, it would still be modern. Next to paintings, you also see architectural art and items integrated in the gallery. Without doubt, the best museum of Figueres.

Dit museum is de hoofdbezienswaardigheid van de noord Spaanse stad Figueres. Het museum richt zich volledig op de kunst van Salvador Dali en zijn leerlingen. De architectuur en de werken zijn gemaakt door dit extravagante genie. De grens tussen genialiteit en waanzin liggen hier echter heel dicht bij elkaar. 

Dali's schilderijen zijn fascinerend, een fantasiewereld vol details. Vele schilderijen vielen in de smaak, .... anderen te raar. Als een kunstenaar dit nu zou maken in de 21ste eeuw, zou het nog modern zijn. Naast schilderwerken, zie je ook architectuur en kunst geïntegreerd in de galerijen. Zonder enige twijfel het beste museum van Figueres.

Hotel Duran and Dali restaurant, Figueres

We were positively surprised by the Duran Hotel which is completely renovated. The Duran family, friends of Salvador Dali, first opened a bar and restaurant. Dali was a regular customer and friend of the house.

Today, this is a large renovated hotel with parking services nearby. The room is modern and comfortable. Before having dinner we went for walk. This is easy since the hotel is located directly in the city center.

The Dali restaurant is decorated with chandeliers and carved wooden furniture. No Zen or minimalistic interior here. The same trend can be found in the food. A classic voluminous cuisine with an attempt of plate dressing. All courses were however excellent.

We selected a carpaccio from shrimps with mushrooms, a starter of scallops with mushrooms, the local Fideua (Catalan Paella) and a filet mignon flambé with cognac. Without any hesitation we had a top dinner and recommend Hotel Duran to all visitors of Figueres.

We waren positief verrast van Hotel Duran dat volledig is gerenoveerd. De Duran familie was bevriend met Salvador Dali en eerst openden ze hier een bar en restaurant. Dali kwam regelmatig eten, feesten en was een vriend des huize.

Vandaag is dit een groot hotel met parkeergelegenheid dichtbij. De kamers zijn modern en comfortabel. Voor het avondeten maakten we nog een wandeling, wat heel gemakkelijk is daar het hotel in het stadscentrum ligt.

Het Dali restaurant is ingericht met sierlusters en zwaar uitgekerfd meubilair. Geen zen of minimalistische toestanden hier. Dezelfde stijl kon je terug vinden in de gerechten. Een klassieke volumineuze stijl met een poging tot presentatie in het bord. Alle gerechten waren echter uitstekend. 

We kozen voor een carpaccio van garnalen met paddenstoelen, een voorgerecht van St. Jacobsnoten, de lokale Fideua (de Paella van Catalonië) en de ossenhaas geflambeerd in cognac. Zonder te aarzelen bevestigen we dat het een top diner was en kunnen Hotel Duran aan alle bezoekers van Figueres aanbevelen.
