January 2014: Top Commentators, focus on Spain

As promised last blogging article, we wrote predominantly about Spain this month: 21 articles from Malaga, Sevilla, Barcelona and Cartagena. As a consequence we only published about 4 countries during January: Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain and Portugal.

We are super happy because it was also a month of records with about 49.000 visitors and almost 1.700 comments. In our top commentators list two readers ended together on the first place. Congratulations to Adam and Whiteangel who both commented 30 times this month. We end our article with the traditional collages and the list of Top Commentators.

Zoals beloofd in ons vorige artikel over bloggen, schreven we voornamelijk over Spanje: 21 artikelen uit Malaga, Sevilla, Barcelona en Cartagena. Hierdoor publiceerden we slechts over 4 landen: België, Nederland, Spanje en Portugal. 

We zijn echter ongelooflijk blij want er vielen records met ongeveer 49.000 bezoekers en bijna 1.700 commentaren. In onze top commentators lijst staan twee lezers samen op de eerste plaats. Proficiat aan Adam en Whiteangel die beiden 30 keer een berichtje nalieten. We eindigen ons artikel traditioneel met foto collages en de lijst van Top Commentators.

December 2013: Top Commentators and summary of the month

This month we published articles from Belgium, China, Croatia, Germany, Monaco, Montenegro, Portugal, Romania and the USA. It was a long time ago we wrote about so many countries, nine in total. Our monthly visitors’ volume went down to about 39.000 hits, we assume Google has changed its search engine algorithms again. We think traffic will pick up again during January.

It was a fantastic month with our last articles from China, the perfect views from the mountains in Kotor (Montenegro) and many Lisbon articles. Next month we will put focus on Spain, showing you beautiful places in several Spanish cities and regions. Like every month, we end our article with the top 15 commentators and picture collages.

Deze maand publiceerden we artikelen over België, China, Kroatië, Duitsland, Monaco, Montenegro, Portugal, Roemenië en de Verenigde Staten. Het was lang geleden dat we over negen verschillende landen hebben geschreven in één maand. Ons aantal bezoekers is wel licht gedaald tot ongeveer 39.000 hits, we veronderstellen dat Google zijn zoekmachine formules weer heeft veranderd. We denken dat ons blogverkeer in januari weer zal toenemen. 

Het was echter een fantastische maand met onze laatste artikelen van China, het perfecte zicht van uit de bergen in Kotor (Montenegro) en vele bijdragen van Lissabon. Volgende maand gaan we ons voornamelijk toeleggen op Spanje, mooie plaatsen in verschillende steden en Spaanse regio’s. Zoals iedere maand eindigen we ons artikel met de top 15 commentators en foto collages.

November 2013: Top Commentators and our China adventures

This month we published articles from Belgium, China, Germany, Italy, Spain and The Netherlands. All countries we visited recently except for China that was in the year 2007. Our monthly visitors’ volume was stable with about 42.000 hits. Like every month, we end our article with the top 15 commentators. Our apologies for not commenting a lot to other blogs in the last week but we were on a travel adventure.

Deze maand publiceerden we artikelen uit België, China, Duitsland, Italië, Spanje en Nederland. Alle landen hebben we recent bezocht behalve China, dat was in 2007. Het aantal bezoekers deze maand was stabiel met ongeveer 42.000 hits. Zoals iedere maand eindigen we ons artikel met de top 15 commentators. We verontschuldigen ons niet aktief genoeg te zijn op andere blogs met commentaar maar we waren aan het reizen.

October 2013: Top Commentators and recollecting memories of China

It has become a tradition, the first article of the new month is a report of our publications of the previous one. The collages show our favourite pictures of countries we published on, namely Belgium, China, Croatia, France, Italy and The Netherlands. All countries we visited recently except for China that was in the year 2007. We intend to write a bit more on fascinating China in the coming months.

The monthly traffic was stable with about 41.000 visitors and our Alexa ranking even improved to 404.000. We saw a slight reduction of spam from robots and an increase of comments from our loyal readers. Thanks.

We end our article with the top 15 commentators of the month; we hope they receive more visitors via these links.

Het is een traditie geworden, de eerste van de maand publiceren we een rapport van de vorige maand. De collages zijn gemaakt van onze favoriete foto’s uit landen waar we over hebben geschreven, namelijk België, China, Kroatië, Frankrijk, Italië en Nederland. Deze hebben we allemaal recent bezocht behalve China wat in het jaar 2007 was. We hebben besloten nog wat meer te publiceren over dit fascinerende land in de komende maanden. 

Het aantal bezoekers in oktober was stabiel op ongeveer 41.000 en onze Alexa ranking verbeterde zelfs tot 404.000. We ondervonden een vermindering van het robot spam volume en ontvingen meer commentaren van onze trouwe lezers. Bedankt.

September 2013: A milestone, 1.000.000 hits since the creation of our blog

As little amateur bloggers, we have reached a milestone this month. We received our 1.000.000th hit. Our blog was created 4,5 years ago but in those days we almost didn’t have visitors. This month we received just above 41.000 hits, a huge difference.

Blogging is fun, we have contacts with people from all over the world. We exchange comments and even get to know some of them personally. We believe that when you have a hobby you would like to share or when you travel a lot, blogging is an ideal way to share information with friends and family. For us, it is also a game.

Als kleine amateur bloggers hebben we deze maand een mijlpaal bereikt met onze 1.000.000ste bezoeker. We begonnen 4,5 jaar geleden te bloggen en toen hadden we bijna geen hits. Deze maand werden we meer als 41.000 keer bezocht, een enorm verschil.

Bloggen is gewoon leuk, je maakt virtueel kennis met veel mensen van overal ter wereld. Je wisselt commentaren uit en leert hen ook soms persoonlijk kennen. Als je een hobby uit oefent of veel reist is bloggen het perfecte kanaal om informatie met vrienden en familie te delen. Voor ons is het ook een spel.

Monthly blog report and Top Commentators August 2013

The month of August was excellent, we travelled a lot and went to the world biggest dance festival in Stutgard the GOC. It was also a turning point for our own dancing, after a sabatical period of 8 months, we started training again. In the coming months we will dance a few national BDSF competitions in preparation for the World Open WDSF tournament in Madrid in January 2014. It will be our first world ranking tournament in the Senior I age class.

During August we wrote about seven countries: Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain and Turkey. In total we received about 34.000 views this month and our top followers were very active as you can see in the commentator list below. We end our article with a few highlight collages of Florence, Blankenberge and Europe.

De maand augustus was uitstekend, we hebben veel gereisd en waren op de GOC te Stuttgart, het grootste dansfestival ter wereld. Augustus was ook een keerpunt voor ons eigen dansen, na een rustperiode van 8 maanden zijn onze trainingen terug aangevangen. De komende maanden dansen we enkele nationale BDSF competities ter voorbereiding van de wereld open WDSF in Madrid, januari 2014. Het wordt ons eerste wereldrankingstornooi in de Senioren I leeftijdsklasse. 

In augustus schreven we over zeven landen: België, Kroatië, Duitsland, Italië, Nederland, Spanje en Turkije. We kregen ongeveer 34.000 hits deze maand en onze top volgers waren heel actief zoals hieronder te zien in de lijst van Top Commentators. We eindigen ons artikel met enkele collages van Florence, Blankenberge en Europa.

Monthly blog report and Top Commentators July 2013

Last month we complained a bit that it was cold and raining, this month it was hot. Not ideal but we should not complain again. Who knows what August will bring? It was again a busy month with lots of travelling. We published every day but were not as active as we would like to be on the blog.

During July we wrote about seven countries: Belgium, Croatia, Monaco, The Netherlands, Spain, Turkey and the UK. In total we received about 12.500 visits but fewer comments, this is probably the result of the new Google algorithm Penguin 2. We end our article with a few highlight collages of Turkey, Europe and our dogs and family. We also added a list of the most active readers.

Vorige maand klaagden we nog over het koude weer en de regen, deze maand was het heet. Niet ideaal maar we mogen niet meer klagen. Wie weet wat augustus voor ons in het petto heeft? Het was terug een drukke maand met veel reizen. We publiceerden iedere dag een artikel maar waren niet aktief genoeg op de blog. 

In juli schreven we over zeven landen: België, Kroatië, Monaco, Nederland, Spanje, Turkije en het Verenigd Koninkrijk. We kregen ongeveer 12.500 bezoeken maar minder commentaren. Dit is waarschijnlijk het resultaat van het nieuwe Google algoritme Penguin 2. We eindigen ons artikel met enkele collages over Turkije, Europa en onze honden en familie. Tevens hebben we een lijst toegevoegd met onze meest actieve lezers.

Monthly blog report and Top Commentators June 2013

What is happening, the spring passed us by and as a consequence you will see many poor weather articles on our blog. We still succeeded to publish every day but it is becoming hard. We hope to keep this up next to our busy job and the restart of dance practise.

During June we wrote about a record eight countries: Belgium, Dominican Republic, Germany, Italy, Montenegro, The Netherlands, Spain and Turkey. Yes, we travel through many countries but that is easy when you go on a cruise. In total we received about 12.500 visits and 1.412 comments, which is a bit higher as last month. We end our article with a few highlight collages and the list of the most active readers.

Wat gebeurd er toch, de lente is ons voorbij gegaan en dit zal ook blijken op onze blog aan de foto’s van het minder goede weer. We zijn er toch in geslaagd om iedere dag iets te publiceren maar het wordt zeer moeilijk. Wij hopen dit toch te kunnen volhouden naast onze drukke job en de hervatte danstrainingen. 

In juni schreven we over acht verschillende landen, een record: België, de Dominicaanse Republiek, Duitsland, Italië, Montenegro, Nederland, Spanje en Turkije. Ja, we reizen in vele landen maar dat is gemakkelijk op een cruise schip. In totaliteit kregen we ongeveer 12.500 bezoeken en 1.412 commentaren, wat een beetje meer is als vorige maand. We eindigen ons artikel met een aantal hoogtepunten van de maand en een lijst van onze meest actieve lezers.

Blog report April 2013, the attack of advertising robots

In April, we wrote about five countries: Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands, United Kingdom and the Turkey. Our blog traffic is still going down and we only reached about 13.500 hits this month. Robots are actively leaving advertisements on our blog comment section for dental services, loans, sex services and electronics. It takes two clean-up sessions a day to delete the entries. We received 1.881 comments from 80 different readers, including the robots. Ginny, Jeanne and Lies were again very active on our blog in April. Thanks.

In April, we justed dropped outside the top 500.000 Alexa ranking of all blogs and websites world wide. Like every month we have added collages of recent published travel experiences.

In april hebben we geschreven over 5 landen: België, Duitsland, Nederland, Verenigd Koninkrijk en Turkije. Het aantal bezoeken gaat nog steeds naar beneden en we bereikten slechts 13.500 hits deze maand. De robots waren wel heel actief en lieten vele reclame boodschappen na over tandartsen, leningen, sex diensten en elektronica. Ongeveer twee maal per dag wordt deze spam verwijderd. We kregen 1.881 commentaren van 80 verschillende lezers, inclusief de robots. Ginny, Jeanne en Lies waren weer heel actief op onze blog in april. Hartelijk dank voor dat. 

In april vielen we net uit de top 500.000 van de Alexa wereldranking. Zoals iedere maand hebben we enkele collages toegevoegd van onze recente reiservaringen.

Blog report March 2013, a new comments record is established

Just like last month, we wrote about five countries: Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands, United Kingdom and the USA. Traffic is going seriously down on our blog, probably an effect of the Google Panda Search Algorithm update last January. We already noticed this last month but in March we only received around 15.000 hits but reached a new record with 1.309 comments from 86 different readers. It comes down to that our loyal readers are more active but we receive less hits from search engines. Jeanne is again for the second month in a row the most active blogger.

We stayed in the top 500.000 Alexa ranking of all blogs and websites world wide and even touched place 398.000 during March. If you like our blog and you think that your friends could benefit from some of our articles, please share them. Besides receiving more traffic for fun, we hope to motivate and support people on their travels around the world. Certainly for city trips is our list of cities right bottom column very useful. Like every month we have added collages of recent published travel experiences.

Net als vorige maand schreven we in maart ook over 5 landen: België, Duitsland, Verenigd Koninkrijk, de Verenigde Staten en Nederland. Het verkeer op onze blog gaat enorm naar beneden, waarschijnlijk een effect van het nieuwe Google Panda update effect van in januari. We merkten het reeds vorige maand, maar in maart kregen we slechts rond de 15.000 hits maar realiseerden een nieuw record met 1.309 commentaren van 86 verschillende lezers. Het komt er op neer dat onze trouwe lezers actiever worden en dat we steeds minder hits krijgen van zoekmachines. Jeanne was voor de tweede maand op rij de meest actieve blogger. 

We bleven in de top 500.000 Alexa ranking van alle blogs en websites in de wereld en kwamen even op plaats 398.000 te staan. Als je denkt dat jullie vrienden nuttige informatie op onze blog zouden kunnen vinden voor hun reizen, deel deze dan. Dit is niet enkel met het doel de hits te doen stijgen maar mensen met hun reisplannen te motiveren en te helpen. Zeker voor citytrips is de lijst met steden in de rechter kolom onderaan heel nuttig. Zoals iedere maand hebben we enkele collages van de meest recente reizen toegevoegd.

Entering the top 600.000 of the Alexa world ranking, blog report January 2013

We are back from the Caribbean and wrote many articles about white beaches, blue sea, the sun, animals and cruising. We interrupted this colourful series of articles to have a look at winter pictures from our home country Belgium and of course The Netherlands. Don’t worry we will continue soon with the sunny contributions.

This month we wrote about seven countries: Barbados, Belgium, Dutch Antilles, Grenada, Netherlands, US Virgin Islands and the USA. The list is almost equal to last month. We received more than 20.000 hits on our blog and 889 comments from 90 different readers. The volume of comments has never been so high, this is caused by opening all possible ways people can add their contribution. As a consequence this route is also open for robots and they frequently comment. This makes no sense because we delete it from our blog. We opened this route since several of our loyal readers had problem adding real comments.

A big thank you to all our followers and commentators, below you find a link to our most active readers. This month we entered the top 600.000 of all blogs and websites world wide. We are very happy with this achievement. Like every month we have added collages of recent published travel experiences.

We zijn terug uit de Caraïben en schreven vele artikelen over witte stranden, blauwe zee, de zon, dieren en cruisen. We hebben onze zonnige artikelreeks onderbroken voor enkele wintertaferelen uit ons vaderland België en natuurlijk ook van Nederland. Maar geen zorgen, we publiceren snel weer over zonnige gebieden. 

Deze maand schreven we over zeven landen: Barbados, België, Nederlandse Antillen, Grenada, Nederland, de Amerikaanse Maagden Eilanden en de VS. Deze lijst is bijna gelijk aan vorige maand. We kregen meer als 20.000 bezoeken en 889 commentaren van 90 verschillende lezers. Het aantal commentaren is nog nooit zo hoog geweest en dit komt door het openstellen van alle mogelijkheden bijdragen te leveren. Als gevolg krijgen we ook regelmatig bezoeken van robots maar hun reclame wordt gewist. We openden deze kanalen daar trouwe lezers soms problemen hadden iets op de blog na te laten. 

Hartelijk dank aan alle volgers en commentators, hieronder vind je een link naar de meest actieve lezers. Deze maand zijn we de top 600.000 van alle blogs en websites ter wereld binnengekomen. We zijn zeer blij met deze prestatie. Zoals elke maand voegen we enkele collages bij van recente reiservaringen.

Blog Report October 2012, Top Commentators and Social Media

Why do people blog? What is their blog vision? What do you want to achieve? These are all reasonable questions active bloggers sometimes ask themselves. After a year of blogging, I discovered Alexa and Google PR rankings and had the ambition to climb these rankings. This is however not so easy. Search engines which find your blog are continuously changing their algorithms to define which blog or website to display first. As far as I have discovered two major changes have impacted individual bloggers rankings in a dramatic way during the last year.

First the split of the country websites. As an example YouTube was seen as one website and now each country in the world has its own YouTube website which counts for a place in this ranking. As a consequence all these splited major websites are jumping in front of individual blog writers dropping their Alexa ranking with a few hundred thousands or millions. As a consequence you get less traffic from search engines.

The new Panda algorithm from Google also seems to impact the page your individual blog is displayed on. A countermeasure you can take is to write more often and with higher quality content. Duplicated information is having a negative impact on finding your blog. If you write a Travel Blog like us, most information is available on the internet in some way or form. The way to move forward for individual bloggers seems to extend and built on a private network of readers. This is a lot of work but also fun. You get to know people, exchange information and visit each others blog. This is giving me a lot of satisfaction.

Our most loyal readers probably noticed already, we try to add more stability and continuation in publishing blog articles. The last few weeks and for the future, we will always publish our daily article at 6:00 PM – Brussels Time. Google looks for more stability and quality for their rankings and we try to follow this by no longer having time gaps between articles. For this we use the scheduling function of Blogger.

The impact of Social Media on blogs can be enormous, most of the time it is not about the high quality content or the beautiful pictures but who is sharing it. Someone who is very popular in a large community will have more views. We once experienced this when a popular person shared a link of one of our articles on Reddit. The article received about 1.500 visits in a few hours. Could you imagine what would happen if Lady Gaga shares one of your blog articles with her 53 million Facebook Friends. The use of Social Media is extremely powerful, we mostly share on Facebook and Reddit.

After a lot of work and fun, our traffic climbed again during October to more than 19.000 page views, an increase of 30% compared to last month. We would like to thank all our followers, active readers and certainly people who leave comments and share our blog on social media sites. This month we received 658 comments from 114 different people a new record. We hope our Top 15 commentators receive more traffic via these links and that their blog publications will be shared in Social Media sites. Like every month we have added two collages of recent travel experiences.

Waarom blogt men? Wat is uw blogstrategie? Wat wens je te bereiken? Dit zijn allemaal redelijke vragen die een blogger zich kan stellen. Na een jaar bloggen, ontdekte ik mijn ambitie om op de Alexa en Google PR Ranking te klimmen. Dit is echter niet gemakkelijk. Zoekmachines die uw blog indexeren en weergeven, veranderen regelmatig hun waarderingsmethodes die berekenen welke website ze eerst weergeven in een zoekopdracht. Zo ver ik het kan beoordelen hebben er twee grote aanpassingen in het laatste jaar een zware impact gehad op de ranking en weergave van persoonlijke blogs. 

Als eerste aanpassing, de opsplitsing van websites per land. Neem nu YouTube als voorbeeld, ieder land in de wereld heeft nu zijn eigen YouTube website en deze worden niet meer als één totaal beschouwd. Iedere landelijke website heeft zijn eigen ranking en al deze internationale sites komen hoger dan persoonlijke blogs. Door deze opsplitsing zak je gewoon weg op de Alexa ranking met een paar honderdduizend en soms wel miljoenen plaatsen. Bijgevolg krijgt jouw blog minder bezoekers via zoekmachines. 

De nieuwe Panda berekeningsmethode van Google lijkt ook een zware impact te hebben op de zichtbaarheid van persoonlijke blogs. Als remedie raadt men aan zoveel mogelijk hoge kwaliteitsartikelen te schrijven. Gedupliceerde informatie kan een negatieve impact hebben op jouw blogverkeer. Maar als je over reizen schrijft zoals wij, is er hierover wel al eens iets over geschreven op het internet, op één of andere wijze. Hoe origineel kan je zijn? De beste manier vooruit voor persoonlijke bloggers lijkt het opbouwen van een goed netwerk van lezers. Dit vergt veel tijd en werk, maar is ook leuk. Je leert mensen kennen, deelt informatie en bezoekt blogs in je eigen interesseveld. Dit geeft me een grote voldoening. 

Onze meest trouwe lezers hebben misschien al vastgesteld dat we werken aan stabiliteit in de publicaties van onze artikelen. De voorgaande weken alsook naar de toekomst toe gaan we iedere dag om 18:00 publiceren. Google zoekt naar kwaliteit en stabiliteit en hiermee vermijden we langere periodes zonder publicatie tussen artikelen. We gebruiken hiervoor de scheduling functie in Blogger. 

De impact van Social Media op persoonlijke blogs kan enorm zijn. Meestal heeft de inhoud een kleinere invloed dan de persoon die het deelt. Iemand die zeer populair is en een groot heeft netwerk zal meer verkeer generen. We hebben dit ooit eens meegemaakt toen iemand op Reddit een link naar ons artikel deelde en we kregen meer als 1.500 bezoekers in een paar uur. Kan je het voorstellen als iemand zoals Lady Gaga met 53 miljoen volgers op Facebook een link naar je blog plaatst? De kracht van Social Media is extreem hoog, we zouden het meer moeten benutten. Wij beperken ons momenteel tot Facebook en Reddit. 

Na veel werk en plezier, is in oktober onze traffic weer gestegen tot boven de 19.000 bezochte pagina’s, een verhoging van meer als 30% in vergelijking met vorige maand. Hartelijk dank aan al onze volgers, lezers en zeker de mensen die commentaren schrijven of onze blog delen in de Social Media. Deze maand kregen we 658 commentaren van 114 verschillende mensen, een nieuw record. Top commentators on our blog during September 2012

During September, we wrote 31 articles about 5 different countries: Austria, Germany, Russia, Sweden and The Netherlands. We try to keep our blog interesting and cover many countries all over the world. All places we write about, we have also visited. The volume of readers this month was the same as last month, just above 15.000 page views.

Thank you to all readers and for writing comments on our articles. A special thanks to Lies who commented 31 times on our blog this month. In September, we had 510 comments from 94 different readers.
