The cathedral or Dom of Salzburg

It is becoming more and more difficult to write original contributions of church articles. Our blog has become almost a database of church collections. We have now written about 121 churches from all over the world, some are small and local but this giant cathedral is exceptional. It is our intension to let you enjoy our visits with pictures and provide you information of what we see and feel.

 The twin towers of the Salzburger Dom are an eye catcher. The clean façade and the four saint statues at the entrance give you a warm welcome. Entering the church, you are amazed of the spacious feeling, the arched ceiling decorations. Just look at the carved details of the arched ceiling in combination with the religious paintings. The ceiling of this church could be considered a treasury chamber.

One level below the church is the crypt with graves of cardinals and high ranked members of the church community. There are several rooms and chapels with seat for people who want to pray in the crypt. One of the doors to the lower level is made of stained glass.

Het wordt moeilijker en moeilijker om originele artikelen te schrijven over kerken. Onze blog heeft reeds een grote verzameling aan religieuze gebouwen. We schreven al over 121 kerken wereldwijd, sommige klein en lokaal, andere zoals deze kathedraal enorm en uitzonderlijk. Het is onze intentie u mee te nemen op onze bezoeken via foto’s, samen met een beschrijving van wat we zien en voelen. 

De dubbele torens van de Salzburger Dom zijn dominant aanwezig. De voorgevel is mooi schoongemaakt en de vier Heiligen beelden aan de inkom geven bezoekers een warm welkom. Als je de kerk binnenkomt krijg je een gevoel van grootsheid en ruimte, en was ik verbaast van de overvloed aan decoraties op het gewelfde plafond. Kijk naar alle ingekerfde details van de booggewelven in combinatie met de godsdiensttaferelen. Het plafond van deze kathedraal is voor ons een echte schatkamer. 

Eén verdiep lager vindt je de crypte met de begraafplaatsen van kardinalen en hoogwaardigheidsbekleders van de kerkgemeenschap. Er zijn verschillende ondergrondse kamers en kapellen in de crypte waar mensen kunnen bidden. Een toegangsdeur tot de crypte is gemaakt van sierglas..

The Dom of Köln (Cathedral of Koeln)

The Dom of Köln is very impressive with its height of 157m. It's a pity that the cathedral is completely black from the pollution. The decorations in the entrance portal are extremely detailed with statues and wooden carvings. On the square in front of the Dom you find many artists. The inside has very high ceilings and large stained glass windows. Certainly worth a visit.

De kathedraal van Keulen is zeer indrukwekkend met zijn hoogte van 157m. Het is jammer dat de kathedraal volledig zwart is van de vervuiling. De decoraties aan het ingangsportaal zijn enorm gedetailleerd met houtsnijwerken en beelden. Op het pleintje voor de kathedraal zie je veel artiesten. In de kathedraal heb je zeer hoge plafonds en grote glasraamwerken. Het is zeker een bezoekje waard..
