Iguanas and lizards at Punta Suarez, Espanola Island, Galapagos

We arrived on the beach with a zodiac boat of the Celebrity Expedition. We were warned to be careful of the iguanas, they are so numerous that it is difficult not to step or fall over one. Some of them are almost two meters long. They all lay silent on rocks, in the sand or on top of each other.

With my big lens, it is easier to take sharp pictures, especially of the lizards which are a lot smaller. We saw some yellow colored species and lizards with red heads.

We kwamen aan op het strand met een zodiac boot van de Celebrity Expedition. We werden gewaarschuwd op te letten voor de leguanen, ze zijn zo talrijk dat het moeilijk is niet op hen te trappen of er over te vallen. Sommigen zijn bijna twee meter lang. Ze liggen stil op de rotsen, in het zand of op elkaar. 

Met onze grote lens is het eenvoudiger scherpe foto’s te maken, in het bijzonder van de hagedissen die heel wat kleiner zijn. We zagen enkele gele exemplaren met een rode nek en kop.

A great tip for cruise passengers, free and guaranteed lizard spotting, Aruba

When your cruise ship docks, you sometimes want to explore the port area by yourself instead of booking an excursion. In this article we explain how to spot lizards in Aruba after a short easy walk alongside shops and the yacht harbour. This is a tip for your own free tour in Oranjestad, Aruba.

Walk out the port and turn right on the L.G. Smith Boulevard. About 500m further on your right site, you see the shopping centre of the Renaissance Ocean Suites and here you go to the right again. After 100m you reach the end of the garden and see the rock formations. You have an excellent view on the cruise ships and the lizards. They are just everywhere and some of them are more than a metre long.

At a certain moment Kristel stood next to a bush and I said to her: turn a little bit to the right, there was a green lizard eating leaves and he was sitting about 50cm from here shoulder. The lizards are masters in camouflage; they are grey on the rocks and green in the bushes. We really enjoyed taking photo’s there.

Als je cruise schip in de haven ligt, wil je soms zonder begeleiding de stad in trekken, in plaats van een excursie te boeken. Dit artikel beschrijft hoe je enorme hagedissen in de natuur van Aruba kan spotten. Na een kleine gemakkelijke wandeling langs winkeltjes en de jachthaven bereik je de ideale spotplaats. Je wandelt de haven uit en gaat naar rechts op de L.G. Smith Boulevard. Na 500m zie je op de rechterzijde het winkelcentrum van de Renaissance Ocean Suites, hier ga je terug naar rechts. Na 100m bereik je het einde van de tuin en zie je de rotsformaties. Wat een fantastisch zicht op de cruiseschepen en hagedissen. De grijze en groene kleppers liggen overal en sommigen zijn meer als een meter lang. 

Op een bepaald moment staat Kristel naast een struik en zeg ik: draai je traag om naar rechts. Er was een enorme groene hagedis bladeren aan het eten op ongeveer 50cm van haar schouder. De hagedissen zijn meesters in camouflage, op de rotsen zijn ze grijs, in de struiken groen. We hebben echt genoten hier foto’s te trekken..

Beach walk attempt from South Beach to Bal Harbour Bay, Miami

It is a marvellous day, the sun shines and there are almost no clouds. We will make an attempt to walk on the beach up to Bal Harbour Bay. At the start of our walk from 14th street up to 23rd street we had a concrete pavement through the dunes with perfect sea views. The next part up to 45th street we had the comfort of a wooden boardwalk, sometimes we even saw little lizards. On 41th street we advise you to have a look from the bridge at the Indian Creek Drive to see the luxury mansions and boats.

But from 45th street onwards we had to walk on the beach itself or with our feet into the water. So we did, for more than an hour. We walked for about 9 km and the beach seemed endless. We gave up at 69th street and took a bus to Bal Bay drive where we had a late lunch on the beautiful terrace of Mister Collins. In front of the hotel we saw a flashy green giant lizard. When we approached him, because he was sitting in the middle of the road, he climbed into a palm tree.

Het is een mooie dag. De zon schijnt en er zijn bijna geen wolken. We gaan een poging wagen op het strand te wandelen tot aan Bal Harbour Bay. Bij onze start aan 14th street tot aan 23rd street gingen we op een kronkelend betonpad door de duinen, met perfect zicht op het strand. Bij het volgende stuk tot aan 45th street bleven we op een comfortabel houten wandelpad, soms zagen we kleine hagedissen. Aan 41th street raden we je aan op de brug te gaan kijken naar de Indian Creek Drive met zijn luxe villa's en boten. 

Vanaf 45th street eindigde het pad en moesten we verder op het strand zelf met onze voeten in het water. Dus deden we dit voor meer dan één uur. We hielden het 9 km vol maar het strand leek eindeloos. We gaven op aan 69th street en namen de bus tot aan Bal Bay drive waar we van een late lunch genoten op het terras van Mr. Collins. Voor het hotel in het midden van de oprit zat een fel groene reuze hagedis. Toen we hem benaderden klom hij snel in een palmboom..
