Peterhof Palace gardens or the Russian Versailles, St. Petersburg

The main attraction of the Peterhof gardens are the golden Grand Cascade fountains on which we will come back in our next Peterhof article. First we will take you for a walk in the enormous lower gardens to see some of the ponds, fountains, art and flowers. It is called the Russian Versailles because they copied the concept from French Royal Gardens out of the 17th century. The palace and the gardens at the Peterhof in St, Petersburg were constructed at the beginning of the 18th century.

De hoofd bezienswaardigheid van de Peterhof tuinen zijn de grote gouden fonteintrappen waaraan we veel aandacht gaan besteden in ons volgend artikel. Eerst gaan we samen wandelen door de enorme lager gelegen tuinen waar we vijvers, fonteinen, kunst en veel bloemen aantreffen. Deze tuinen worden ook wel eens het Russische Versailles genoemd daar ze ontworpen zijn naar voorbeeld van Franse Koninklijke tuinen uit de 17de eeuw. Het paleis en de tuinen hier in St. Petersburg werden gebouwd aan het begin van de 18de eeuw..
