Nowadays you still find many Buddy Bears in Berlin but they are also spread all over the world. Each bear is privately owned by companies or organisations and the price paid for the piece of art went to a good cause for children in need. The Buddy Bear Foundation works closely together with UNICEF and is recognised by the United Nations to promote tolerance. The buddy Bears in the streets of Berlin gave us a good opportunity to take some interesting pictures.
Het “Buddy Bear” concept werd hier in Berlijn ontwikkeld in 2001. Eerst voor een tentoonstelling met 350 hand geschilderde beren, opgemaakt uit glasvezel, waarbij op hun lichaam verschillende culturele en geografische onderwerpen werden getoond. De beer heeft altijd al een speciale plaats in de harten van de Berlijnse bevolking gehad daar ook het wapenschil de van de stad een beer bevat.
Vandaag vind je nog steeds veel van deze beren in de stad maar ze werden overal ter wereld verkocht. Iedere Buddy Bear is nu privaat eigendom van bedrijven of organisaties en de opbrengst van de verkoop ging naar het goede doel voor kinderen in nood. De Buddy Bear Foundation werkt nauw samen met UNICEF en is herkend door de UNITED NATIONS voor de promotie van verdraagzaamheid.
