Airforce simulations of Willfire at the Berlin Airshow, ILA 2012

The German Airforce opened military simulations with their Willfire program which was very educational I must say. They showed how Tornado fighters identified targets and protected an area with ground troops being evacuated by cargo planes. We saw dog fights between several Tornado’s and Eurofighter jets, and the refuelling of fighter jets in the air. A great program of the Deutsche Luftwaffe.

In the solo flight programs, a Finish F18-Hornet fired deflecting materials to mislead rockets and a German Eurofighter showed its manoeuvrability. Eurofighter Typhoon is the newest European technology jet fighter which reaches speed above 2.200 km/h, 2,2 Mach. The Turkish Stars demo team showed their acrobatic jet program with 7 planes.

Next to this we were impressed with some historical planes and the Eurocopter X3 that could reach speeds of 400km per hour which is unique for a helicopter. Below you find some pictures.

De Duitse luchtmacht opende de militaire simulaties met hun Willfire programma dat zeer leerrijk was. Ze toonden hoe Tornado straaljagers doelen markeerden en een gebied met grondtroepen controleerden. De grondtroepen werden opgehaald door een vrachtvliegtuig. We zagen straaljager gevechten tussen Tornado’s en Eurofighters, en het in de lucht bijtanken van vliegtuigen. Een zeer goed programma van de Deutsche Luftwaffe.

In de solo vluchten schoot een Finse F-18 Hornet vuurbommen om raketten af te leiden indien hij beschoten zou worden. De Eurofighter Typhoon, het allernieuwste Europees gevechtsvliegtuig dat snelheden haalt boven 2.200 km/u (2,2 Mach), toonde hij beweeglijk het wel is. De Turkish Stars gaven een formatie acrobatie demo met 7 straaljagers.

We waren tevens onder de indruk van enkele historische vliegtuigen en de Eurocopter X3 die snelheden haalt tot 400km/u wat uniek is voor een helikopter. Hieronder vind je enkele foto’s..

Berlin Airshow ILA 2012, static displays

Last Sunday, we were at the ILA Airshow in Berlin. It was a big event which is organised every two years and attracts around 250.000 visitors. In this first article we are going to show some pictures of airplanes we found impressive. Some are colourful civilian acrobatic planes but most of it is military equipment. From the military planes, my interest goes out to the fighter jets like the Tornado, F16, Mirage, Mig-29, Alpha Jet, F-18 Hornet, and not to forget the new Eurofighter Typhoon. Next to these ultra fast machines they also had helicopters, cargo planes and even a civilian electrical aircraft.

Vorige zondag waren we op de ILA Airshow in Berlijn. Het is een groot evenement dat iedere twee jaar wordt georganiseerd en ongeveer 250.000 bezoekers aantrekt. In ons eerste artikel tonen we enkele foto’s van de indrukwekkende vliegtuigen op de grond. Er waren wat kleurrijke burger vliegtuigen voor acrobatie maar de meeste waren militaire toestellen. Mijn interesse gaat voornamelijk uit naar de snelle jachtvliegtuigen zoals de Tornado, F16, Mirage, Mig-29, Alpha Jet, F-18 Hornet en zeker niet te vergeten, de nieuwe Eurofighter Typhoon. Naast de ultra snelle machines waren er ook helikopters, vrachtvliegtuigen en een elektrisch burgervliegtuig..
