Fine American cuisine in restaurant Hook and Plow, Seattle

When we are in the US, we try to avoid top restaurants because they, according to our experiences, almost never reach the European quality level and are much more expensive. We mostly go to restaurant chains with a good reputation. However in Seattle, we had difficulties to select a restaurant. At the Waterfront, we found Hook and Plow.

As the name already reveals, they mainly serve fish. It was a nice sunny evening and we could sit outside with a bottle of local white wine. We selected the crab cakes with marinated cauliflower and mandarins, tuna sashimi, rib eye and scallops risotto. The food was very good and prices fair for Seattle. We returned a second time to this restaurant and definitely recommend it.

Dragons protecting the streets of Chinatown, Seattle

Close to King Station you find the Chinatown district. It is rather small but contains some interesting gates, wall paintings and our favorites, many dragons. The dragons are twisted around streetlight poles. Their heads high in the sky and looking down into the streets. This is not your average guard dog.

The White Hall of King Station, Seattle

Close to the American football stadium (CenturyLink Field), you find King Station. It is the main train station of this enormous capital of the State Washington. For this reason, we were expecting a large building with thousands of travelers. It was however small, we didn't see any trains and only a few people. Is there a strike? No, trains are not as popular in the US than in Europe.

The exterior of King Station is marked by a high brown tower. The interior of the White Hall is spectacular. It surprised us, decorations on the ceilings and walls broke the simple white surfaces. An interesting classic style in a modern city.

Hierdoor hadden we duizenden passagiers verwacht.

Views of Seattle and Mount Rainier from the Space Needle

The observation deck of the 184 meters high tower offers visitors views of the city center, port and even Mount Rainier on clear days. On that day, we saw it at the horizon, covered in snow. The Space Needle is the symbol of Seattle and likely the most visited building.

Our first picture is taking in front of a blue key. It was offered to us free of charge together with buying an entrance ticket. The shots from high above the city are very good. You get a nice view of the skyscrapers. We recommend to visit the Space Needle when you are in Seattle.

Restaurant Athenian on Pike's Market, Seattle

This traditional fish restaurant and bar on Pike's Market is extremely popular. When we arrived for lunch, there stood about 40 people in front of us waiting for a table. Restaurant Athenian was founded in 1909 and is still an icon. The interior is very basic, dark wood but with nice views on the waterfront.

Being in Seattle, we decided to try different local specialties like smoked salmon, shrimps and King Crab. No fine dining or food presentation but pure product. We enjoyed the fish and seafood. The wine was also good and not overpriced like in many establishments in this city.

General Impressions of Seattle, a city full of live

Seattle is very lively and divers. It has amazing views of the waterfront and skyline. There is something to do for young and old, a Ferris wheel, Duck Tours, American Football, Baseball, museums, art in the street and a lot more.

It is a mixture of modern and historical architecture, cars park under the highway and occasionally you see a totem pole in the street. The most famous icon of the city is the Space Needle, after your visit you can enjoy a Dog, the well know Seattle Hot Dogs.
