On board of the Chinese Military ship 866, Grenada

The 866 is the Ark Peace of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy. We encountered the medical military vessel in Grenada and before they started operations, a limited number of cruise passengers who showed interest, were invited on board. We were lucky to be part of this experience.

On the ship tour we saw the hospital, dentist facilities, laboratory, decks, the life boats, the rescue helicopter and the bridge. Kristel took a picture of me at the helm. What an opportunity to do this.

This floating hospital is built to provide medical support services around the world in case of natural disasters or armed conflicts. They have a capacity of 500 beds and can execute 60 major surgeries a day.

Here in Grenada, the ship was on its "Harmonious Mission" with the goal to visit seven regions on a world tour, exchange information and foster military diplomacy. In poorer regions like Grenada, the local population makes use of the medical services provided by this vessel. They stayed on the island for seven days and provided free medical care to thousands.

Relaxing on Morne Rouge Bay, Grenada

Grenada is one of the poorest Caribbean Islands and when we are there, we try to support locals by using their services. This time we took a taxi to explore the island and went to Morne Rouge Bay. This small beach is accessible via a wooden pub. A nice place to have a drink and eat a snack.

We went for a walk and some swimming. The weather was ideal to relax and enjoy the water. It makes me think about summer again. Still a while to go since the winter just started in Europe.

Bible reading and Anadale falls, Grenada

On our walk to the Anadale Falls, we were accompanied by a local singer. He was a funny guy and knew some popular songs. The forest has many beautiful flowers and special trees. Some we had never seen before.

Reaching the falls, there was church community reading bible stories. We felt the importance of religion on this island. The Anadale fall is reasonable in size. We enjoyed or trip.

Supporting the local community at Grand Etang Lake, Grenada

At the Grand Etang house, you have to pay an entrance fee to walk in the garden and visit a small information center informing tourists about the fauna and flora. There were a few nice flowers in de garden and locals tried to earn tips by playing music or take a picture with a fruit lady. We gave our contribution since people are trying to survive.

The Etang Lake is located on an altitude of about 600 m and provides water to the city of St. George during the dry season. It has been naturally created in the krater of a volcano.
