Historical buildings and the Tyn church on the Old Town Square, Prague

The Old Town Square is one of the most interesting places of Prague. Not only at the corner of the square you have the astronomical clock but every single house is a monument on itself. All facades are different, they contain statues, arches, paintings, towers, different colour displays, tell stories, … You have to be there to appreciate the beauty of this great square in the old town of Prague. It is always very crowded, all tourist want to be here and see the powerful towers of the Tyn church. As a tourist you have the opportunity to visit Prague in horse and carriage. This is one of the departure points.

Asian fusion cuisine in the Buddha Bar restaurant, Prague

There are several Buddha Bar restaurants in the world. The first one opened its doors in Paris and was such a huge success that they now expand. My first experience with this modern European-Asian concept was in Dubai. We were so pleased that I immediately took the opportunity to dine at the Buddha Bar restaurant in Prague. The style of the restaurant is similar as in Dubai, rather dark with red lights and an enormous Buddha statue in the middle of the restaurant. On the walls you see photographs of places and people in Asia.

As starter, I tried the sushi of the house, the Buddha-Bar Creation. The waiter warned me it was very experimental and not comparable to the classical sushi and sashimi which is also available. The chef made use of crunchy rice textures and sauces. For me the experiment was a success but my preference would go out to the classical sushi. As a main course, I took the Red Curry Shrimps with lemongrass served in a coconut. It was very good and mild with the spices. If you like to dine in a special atmosphere, don’t hesitate to visit this restaurant.

The fabulous peacock gardens of Wallenstein Palace, Prague

The gardens of Wallenstein Palace are just fabulous. They have everything: trees, flowers, ponds, bushes, statues, walking paths and peacocks. The peacocks were nervous due to the large volume of tourists who visit the gardens and the mating season. The white females scream to attract colourful males who then start to open their fantastic green yellow wings. When another male or even a tourist comes to close the peacock starts shaking its tail so fast that it sounds like a nest of bees zooming. I certainly kept my distance but am very happy with the picture I took from the assertive male peacock.

Sgraffito wall coverings on the Schwarzenberg Palace, Prague

This Renaissance building from the 16th century is unique because of its sgraffito wall coverings. The brown walls are painted with black design and covered the whole front façade and inner courtyard. The palace is part of the National Gallery of Prague which owns several historical buidlings they use a museum. At the time we were there it was holding an exhibition of Baroque in Bohemia. We added some pictures of paintings and sculptures we liked.

The Loreta church and pilgrimage in the Prague Hradčany district

For me this is the second most beautiful church of Prague and this is an achievement with so many churches in the city. When you approach the church and monastery, you descent via an outdoor staircase flanked with statues of angels. The white yellow front façade of the Loreta complex is an eye catcher. The Baroque church is famous but rather young, it contains about 400 years of history. The centre building in the inner court is called Santa Casa, this is the heart of the pilgrimage. Around the courtyard there is a gallery with covered chapels. The church of the Nativity of Our Lord is richly decorated in Rococo style. To visit the church you need to pay a fee and if you want to take pictures, you have to pay extra. They understand the principles of the free market in the Loreta sanctuary of Prague.
