Xpressions lunch at the Beluga Loves You restaurant, Maastricht

Modern architecture in a club lounge style with amazing food prepared by the two Michelin Star Chef Hans van Wolde, makes this restaurant one of our favorites in the world. Their credo is Beluga loves you, well it is mutual.

With our Champagne they served some teasers including their signature "Hit Me" amuse. The Xpressions menu contained: oyster with King Crab, scallops with radish and miso, halibut with shrimps and seafood, a Bommerig fowl, a selection of cheese, limoncello and cappuccino.

On request, wine is paired by one of the most intriguing sommeliers we ever encountered. He brings life to wine and transports you in a world of passion. We had a great time and will go back to Beluga Loves you soon.

Moderne architectuur in een club lounge stijl met ongelooflijke gerechten klaargemaakt door de twee Michelin Sterren Chef Hans van Wolde, maken dit restaurant één van onze favorieten wereldwijd. Hun credo is Beluga Loves You, wel het is wederzijds.

Bij onze Champagne serveerde men enkele teasers inclusief hun huisspecialiteit amuse "Hit Me". Het Xpressions menu bestond uit: oester met koningskrab, St. Jacobsvruchten met radijsjes en miso, heilbot met garnaaltjes en kokkels, een Bommerig Hoen, een kaasselectie, limoncello en cappuccino. 

Op verzoek wordt wijn per gerecht gepaard door één van de meest intrigerende sommeliers die we hebben ontmoet. Hij brengt passie in de wijn en trekt je overtuigend mee in de virtuele wereld van de wijnmaker. We hadden er een top lunch en gaan zeker terug naar Beluga Loves You.

Graffiti at the abandoned factory district Bassin, Maastricht

In our previous article of Maastricht, you saw the modernisation of the city with marvelous architecture. Here in the Bassin, factories are abandoned, and remain standing in their skeleton. It attacks tourists who visit the Bassin via the water with small boats.

We make our way on foot alongside and on the locks. Like this we can go deeper into the graffiti area and factory grounds. Some of the graffiti is abstract but we recognize many paintings of creepy characters with beer, aliens and faces. Above all, the liquid citernes look amazing.

Almost at the bank, we have nice views over the Maas River. Before leaving, I take a picture of Kristel in her colored dress, it matches the surroundings of paint and wild growing plants. Needless to say that Kristel looks great again.

In ons voorgaande Maastricht artikel, zagen we de modernisering van de stad met prachtige architectuur. Hier in de Bassin, zijn fabrieken in verval en achtergelaten, ze staan nog recht in hun geraamte. Het trekt toeristen aan die de Bassin komen bekijken via het water in kleine rondvaart bootjes.

Wij vinden onze weg echter te voet langs het water en via sluizen. Op deze wijze kunnen we dieper het graffiti gebied en de fabrieksgebouwen betreden. Sommige graffiti is abstract maar we herkennen ook vele spuitwerken met bier drinkende griezelige personen, buitenaardse wezens en gezichten. Boven alles uit, vinden we de enorme beschilderde citernes ongelooflijk. 

Bijna aan de oever hebben we een mooi zicht over de Maas. Net voor we terreinen verlaten neem ik nog een foto van Kristel in haar kleurrijke jurk. De kleuren en patronen passen in deze omgeving van verf en wild groeiende planten. Het mag gezegd worden dat Kristel er weer fantastisch uit ziet.

Maastricht, a modern city with Roman history

The city of Maastricht was named after the Maas River which flows through the capital of Dutch Limburg. It is a cozy city close to the Belgian border. From both river banks, you have nice views on the buildings and its bridges.

In the city you still find some ruins from the Roman Empire and historical buildings. Maastricht however works very hard on its appearance with modern architecture, new buildings, bridges and art. Some shopping malls fuse modern and classic styles.

De stad Maastricht werd genaamd naar de Maas rivier die door de hoofdstad van Nederlands Limburg stroomt. Het is een gezellige stad dicht bij de Belgische grens. Van beide oevers heb je prachtige zichten op de gebouwen en de stadsbruggen. 

Hier vind je nog enkele overblijfselen uit het Romeinse Rijk en historische gebouwen. Maastricht werkt echter heel hard aan zijn uitstraling met modern architectuur, nieuwe gebouwen, bruggen en kunst. Sommige winkelcentra mixen modern en klassieke stijlen.
