New Michelin Star experience at M-Bistro in Nieuwpoort

It has been a while since we wrote about a Michelin Star restaurant. M-Bistro in Nieuwpoort city, at the Belgian coast is certainly worth a visit. It just received its first Michelin Star and rising restaurants almost always bring a modern touch and creativity. M-Bistro confirms this trend.

We selected the five course tasting menu with a lobster asparagus combination, dog shark, sea devil, veal and cheese. Every dish could be paired with wine which is a major plus. We enjoyed the dinner and congratulations to the Chef and staff with their new award. A place we recommend for upscale dining.

Het was een tijdje geleden sinds we over een Michelin Sterren restaurant geschreven hadden. M-Bistro in Nieuwpoort stad is zeker een bezoekje waard. Zij kregen net een eerste Michelin Ster en rijzende restaurants brengen meestal een moderne creatieve toets. M-Bistro bevestigd deze trend. 

We kozen voor het vijf gangen degustatiemenu, kreeft gecombineerd met asperges, hondshaai, lotte, kalfslende en kaas. Ieder gerecht kan worden gepaard met wijn wat een groot voordeel is. We genoten van het diner en geven onze felicitaties aan de Chef en zijn team met hun eerste ster. Dit restaurant kunnen we zeker aanbevelen voor fijne hoogstaande gerechten.

The Passenger of Arne Quinze, Mons

This wooden piece of art (The Passenger) made by Arne Quinze in Mons is 43m long and 16m high. This is a contemporary temporary exhibition which will be removed in 2020. When you like it, you should be fast. The artist is building such wooden constructions all over the world in Brazil, China, Belgium, the USA, Middle East, Germany and more.

Setting this up in busy places where everyone passes by, brings culture into the hearts in minds of all layers of population, independent of your interest. You are confronted with art, without going to a museum. This piece represents a stream of passengers passing by in the city. This is the main road, close to the market and the church, you are obliged to see it. It is unbelievable what colors and wood can represent.

Dit houten kunstwerk (De Reiziger) is ontworpen door Arne Quinze in Bergen en is 43m lang en 16m hoog. Deze moderne tijdelijke tentoonstelling zal worden verwijderd in 2020. Als je hier van houdt moet je snel zijn. De kunstenaar bouwt houten constructies overal ter wereld zoals in Brazilië, China, België, de Verenigde Staten, het Midden-Oosten, Duitsland en meer. 

Het opstellen van kunstwerken op drukke publieke plaatsen brengt cultuur in de harten van alle mensen in het dagelijkse leven, onafhankelijk van hun interesses. Je wordt geconfronteerd met kunst zonder naar een museum te gaan. Het stuk stelt een stroom van passagiers voor in de stad. Op deze drukke straat dicht bij de kerk en grote markt, zijn voorbijgangers verplicht te kijken. Het is ongelooflijk wat kleuren en hout kunnen weergeven.

Cathedral of Mons and the Golden Coach, Mons

It has been a long time since our last blog article but we will try to pick it up. Today we continue our trip in Mons with the cathedral of Mons. The church was built in the 13th century and has a typical gothic style of the Flemish region. Like in many places, it was the intention to build a high clock tower but the underground was not stable enough. As a consequence the tower was cut short.

The most important art piece in the church is the Golden Coach holding the shrine of Saint Waudru. His coffin is surrounded by angels. Once a year the coach is used in a holy procession.

Het is een lange tijd geleden dat we nog een blog artikel hebben gepubliceerd, maar we proberen het terug op te pikken. Vandaag gaan we verder op onze uitstap in Mons (Bergen) met de kathedraal. Deze kerk werd gebouwd gedurende de 13 de eeuw in een typische Vlaamse Gotische stijl. Zoals op veel plaatsen was de ondergrond niet stabiel genoeg voor een hoge kloktoren dus werd deze maar een stukje ingekort. 

Het belangrijkste kunstwerk is de Gouden Koets die het graf van Sint Waldetrudis draagt. Zijn kist is omringt door engelen. Eens per jaar, net na Pinksteren speelt de koets een hoofdrol in een heilige processie.
