General Impressions of Tergernsee, Bavaria

Tegernsee is one of the most popular lake areas of Bavaria. It is about one hour drive from Munich. Needless to say that many people visit the lake during the weekend when the weather is good. We had a traffic jam of one hour getting into the lake region and the same when returning to Munich. Take this into account when you plan a visit.

The lake town is very nice, with walking promenades and many water sport opportunities. Plenty of tourists and a great place to spot super cars. Surrounded by mountains, the area lake is exceptional. We enjoy a lunch in one of the mountain taverns. In town you find some historical buildings like the train station, the city hall and church.

Schwangau a small town in the mountains of Bavaria

We were on our way to probably the most famous castle in the world, the castle of Disneyworld but than for real. Its name is Neuschwanstein, the main residence of King Ludwig II of Bavaria and the example to build the Disney castle. We imagined it would be somewhere in the mountain forests but it was close to a village called Schwangau.

We had lunch there before we walked up to the castle. The village attracts so many visitors and most of them look for alternative transportation to make their way up to Neuschwanstein because cars are not allowed. People take the bus or the horse and carriage. We walked.

The town is beautiful with typical Bavarian houses, a castle, the house of hunters, the may tree, flowers and wall paintings. Higher up in the mountains you see the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein. We recommend making the trip on foot; it takes as long by bus or horse. Good luck.

Typical Bavarian food in the “Kleine Schmausefalle”, Munich

Very close to Motel One, you find one of our favourite Bavarian restaurants, “Kleine Schmausefalle”. It is a typical Bavarian place with wooden tables and chairs. In the summer they have a “Biergarten” and during the winter period it is very warm a cosy in the restaurant. As an amuse from the Chef, they always serve a small soup. This visit we took a product of the season, the Asparagus and a typical regional meat dish, the Wiener Schnitzel. This together with a nice beer like “Spaten” and the evening kicks off in a nice way. Cheers.
