Merry Chirstmas from Santa Claus House, North Pole, Alaska

Christmas is approaching and we think back of our visit to the Santa Claus House in North Pole, Alaska. During our visit there was no snow yet and there was still light. Today it cold, dark and everything is snowed under. In the Santa Claus House everyone is working hard to prepare Christmas presents. Kids from all over the world are writing letters to Santa Claus who lived here in North Pole.

Con Miller who moved to North Pole Alaska once played Santa Claus and owned a trading post. While he was working, a kid recognized him and addressed him as Santa Claus. This was the start of a Christmas shop. Now this is the most famous Christmas shop and the real Santa Claus House. Have you already written your letter? Merry Christmas to you all.

Kerstmis nadert en we denken terug aan ons bezoek aan het Santa Claus House (Kerstmanhuis) in North Pole (de Noordpool) Alaska. Tijdens ons bezoek lag er nog geen sneeuw en er was nog licht buiten. Nu is het er bar koud, donker en alles bedekt met sneeuw. In het Santa Claus House is iedereen hard aan het werk om de kerst voor te bereiden. Kinderen van overal ter wereld schrijven brieven naar de Kerstman die hier in North Pole woont. 

Con Miller verhuisde naar North Pole Alaska en af en toe speelde hij Kerstman, hij had hier een handelszaak. Tijdens zijn werk werd hij door een jongen herkend die hem als Kerstman aansprak. Dit was de start van de kerstwinkel. Nu is het de beroemdste kerstwinkel en het echte Santa Claus House. Hebben jullie al je brief naar de Kerstman geschreven? Een zalige kerst aan iedereen toegewenst.

We wish you a Merry Christmas from Bush Gardens, Tampa

On this Christmas evening we would like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas. We do this with our impressions from Bush Gardens, the Africa theme park in Tampa. Here the Christmas sleigh is pulled by a zebra instead of deer. Some of Christmas trees are bright yellow and we still have sun and palm trees. A Merry Christmas to you all.

Op Kerstavond wensen we u en uw familie een prettige Kerst toe. We doen dit met onze foto’s van Bush Gardens, het Afrika pretpark in Tampa. Hier wordt de slee getrokken door een zebra in plaats van rendieren. Enkele kerstbomen zijn fel geel gekleurd en we hebben nog steeds zon en palmbomen. Een zalige Kerstmis voor iedereen.

We wish you all good holidays and a Merry Grinchmas, Orlando

For Europeans, celebrating Christmas in a warm country is always something strange. We are used to the cold and snow in December. Here in Orlando, Christmas is celebrated in the burning sun under a palm tree. The two worlds could not be more contradictory than this. For this reason we start our first Christmas article with the opponent of Christmas, the Grinch.

Most Europeans don’t know this fairytale character named the Grinch, who had a small heart and lived alone on its mountain. He hated Christmas and those who celebrated the event and tried to prevent it taking place by stealing all the decorations and presents. At the end Christmas came after all and the Grinch got a warm feeling, his heart grew and he returned all the things he had stolen.

The story was written by Dr. Seuss in 1957 and in Orlando a part of the theme park “Islands of Adventure of Universal Studios” is called “Seuss Landing” based on his children’s books. In this area everything is colourful and decorated for the Christmas holiday period. The Grinch walks around, is up to mischief, and poses with children and adults. Children are occasionally afraid but he has accepted Christmas now and he wishes you all together with us, a Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Voor Europeanen is het vieren van Kerstmis in een warm land altijd raar. Wij zijn meer gewoon aan de kou en sneeuw in december. Hier in Orlando wordt Kerst gevierd in de brandende zon onder een palmboom. Deze twee werelden kunnen niet verder uit elkaar liggen. Daarom starten we ons eerste kerstartikel met de tegenstander van Kerstmis, de Grinch. 

Vele Europeanen kennen de Grinch niet, deze fantasiepersoon leefde alleen in de bergen en had een veel te klein hart. Hij haatte Kerstmis en de mensen die het vierden. Om te vermijden dat Kerstmis zou plaatsvinden stal hij alle decoraties en geschenken. Maar Kerstmis kwam toch en de Grinch kreeg een warm gevoel, zijn hart groeide en gaf alles wat hij gestolen had terug. 

Het verhaal van werd geschreven door Dr. Seuss in 1957 en in Orlando is een gedeelte van het pretpark “Islands of Adventure of Universal Studios” gebaseerd op deze kinderboeken. In dit gedeelte van het park is alles kleurrijk en versierd voor de kerst vakantieperiode. De Grinch wandelt hier rond, steekt kattenkwaad uit, en poseert met kinderen en volwassenen. Soms zijn de kinderen wel bang, maar de Grinch heeft Kerstmis nu aanvaard en samen wensen wij u en uw familie een zalige kerst..
