Today we are focussing on a less known area, the district of Eixample. In the late 19th century the rich built here exclusive houses in the most extravagant way. Every detail was important and they used expensive materials like ceramics, bronze, glass and marble.
The most important street is the Passeig de Gracia. A great shopping street and it contains a collection of modernista treasures like Casa Batllo, Casa Amatller and La Predera. All houses are very special and shoppers could spend a whole day in this area.
The entrance fees for the houses are very high and we would recommend to only passing by while shopping. Park Güell is a lot bigger, more beautiful and charges no fee for the visit.
De meest beroemde Modernista archtect is Antoni Gaudi en iedereen kent zijn meesterwerk dat momenteel wordt voltooid, de tempel Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia. Hij bouwde ook vele andere huizen en kunst zoals Park Güell met de lange golvende Gaudi bank.
Vandaag kijken we echter naar een minder bekend gebied, de wijk Eixample. Op het einde van de 19de eeuw bouwden de rijken hier de meest exclusieve en extravagante huizen. Ieder klein detail was belangrijk en men gebruikte de duurste materialen zoals keramiek, brons, marmer en glas.
De belangrijkste straat is de Passeig de Gracia. Een mooie winkelstraat en deze bevat een collectie van Modernista schatten zoals Casa Batllo, Casa Amatller en La Predera. Alle huizen zijn uniek en mensen die graag winkelen kunnen hier de volledige dag doorbrengen.
De inkom voor de huizen is duur en we bevelen aan enkel de buitenzijde te bekijken tijdens het winkelen. Park Güell is veel groter, mooier en gratis te bezoeken..
