Walking around the Garcia Rocks of El Teide, Tenerife

This is the most popular area of the vulcano. The lava and weather conditions have shaped the rocks into something unique. You could call it gigantic sculptures made by the force of nature. Some of these Garcia Rocks have nick names like the "Cathedral" and the "Finger of God".

We enjoyed our walk in this dry but windy dessert. The view points overlooking the valley next to the rocks are excellent. As soon as you walk a bit further on to the trails it becomes less crowded. At the Garcia Rocks there are too many tourists. Luckily almost all of them don't want to walk more than 100 metres.

Dit is de meest populaire plaats op de vulkaan El Teide. De lava en extreme weer condities hebben de rotsen tot iets uniek omgetoverd. Deze gigantische beeldhouwwerken werden gemaakt door de kracht van de natuur. Enkele van de Garcia Rocks hebben bijnamen zoals "De kathedraal" en de "Vinger van God". 

We genoten van onze wandeling in de droge maar winderige woestijn. De zichten over de valleien naast de rotsformaties zijn uitstekend. Van zodra je wat verder gaat op de wandelroutes wordt het minder druk. Aan de Garcia Rocks zelf zijn er gewoon te veel toeristen. Gelukkig willen de meesten niet meer als 100 meter wandelen.

The highest mountain of Spain, El Teide, Tenerife

You need to be lucky to see the top the mighty El Teide volcano mountain in Tenerife. It is always cloudy and in poor weather conditions your visit to the high mountain region will fail. The top of El Teide with 3.718 m was not reachable when we arrived because of the clouds but on our way there we could take some good pictures.

What we love the most in this region are the clouds. Almost every time we are here it is possible to drive to the volcano and leave the clouds below you. This provides such nice views and photos.

Cruise passengers or other tourists who rent a car have to take into account they need about 1,5 hours to reach the mountain and the same for the way back. This is the case from Santa Cruz and even longer from the popular Playa Las Americas. Don't forget to take this into account. We don't want you to miss your ship.

Je moet wat geluk hebben om de top van El Teide, de bergvulkaan van Tenerife te kunnen zien. Het is altijd bewolkt en als het weer iets slechter is kan je het bezoek aan dit berggebied wel vergeten. De top van El Teide ligt op een hoogte van 3.718m en was voor ons niet bereikbaar vanwege het dikke wolkendek. Onderweg konden we wel enkele goede foto's maken.

Wat we het leukste vinden in dit gebied zijn in feite de wolken. Bijna iedere keer is het mogelijk naar de vulkaan te rijden en de wolken ver onder je achter te laten. Dit biedt zo'n goede mogelijkheden prachtige foto's te trekken. 

Cruise passagiers of andere toeristen die een auto huren om El Teide te bezoeken dienen er rekening mee te houden dat de rit ongeveer 1,5 uur duurt in beide richtingen. Dat is zo vertrekkende uit Santa Cruz maar nog langer uit het populaire Playa Las Americas. Een goed tip, hou hier rekening mee. We zouden niet willen dat jullie de afvaart van jullie schip missen.
