Views from Fort San Felipe, Cartagena

Fort San Felipe is one of the most preserved forts in the Caribbean Sea. It is the first defense post for ships entering the region of Cartagena. This is probably the most popular tourist attraction of the city. Not only the climb, ruins and history are interesting also the underground corridors and cells are open to the public.

Fort San Felipe is één van de beste bewaarde forten in het Caribische Zee gebied. Het is de eerste verdedigingslijn tegen schepen die de regio van Cartagena naderen. Dit is waarschijnlijk de meest populaire bezienswaardigheid van de stad. Niet enkel de klim, het zicht, de ruïnes, en geschiedenis zijn interessant maar ook de ondergrondse tunnels en cellen die open zijn voor het publiek.

Fort the San Felipe de Barajas, Cartagena

This fort in Cartagena was built in the 16th century, it is enormous. From the hill you have a very nice view over the harbour and city of Cartagena. The fort is located outside the old city walls and was a first line defence for enemy ships trying to invade Cartagena. The military construction still has many tunnels but most of them are under water. The fort has such a structure that invaders were trapped in certain areas and could be killed easily. It was very warm that day, but this didn't stop the guard blowing his trumpet. This is the last Cartagena article now we sailed of to the Panama Canal.

Dit fort in Cartagena werd gebouwd in de 16de eeuw en is enorm groot. Van op deze heuvel heb je een prachtig zicht op de haven en de stad. Het fort ligt buiten de stadsmuren van oud Cartagena en diende als eerste defensie lijn voor invallen door vijandige schepen. Het is dus een militaire constructie met veel tunnels waarvan de meeste nu onder water staan. Het fort heeft zo'n structuur dat vijanden in bepaalde hoeken vastliepen en gemakkelijk uitgeschakeld werden. Het was een warme dag, maar dat belette de wachter niet op zijn trompet te blazen.
