The original City Hall of Rotterdam

Many of you must think what a strange title. Is this so special an original building? For this city it is. Rotterdam is very modern because it was heavely bombarded during the Second World War. Almost all buildings were destroyed but the City Hall at the Coolsingel survived. The building is still young with its 90 years but in Rotterdam, it can be considered as one of the old monuments. We particularly like the tower with the green cap and the golden angel on top. In front of this enormous City Hall you see the statue of Johan van Oldenbarnevelt who was a consultant for the son of Willem of Oranje.

Vele van jullie denken waarschijnlijk wat een rare titel. Wat is er zo speciaal aan een origineel gebouw? Voor deze stad wel. Rotterdam werd zwaar gebombardeerd gedurende de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Bijna alle gebouwen werden vernietigd behalve het stadhuis aan de Coolsingel. Het gebouw is nu 90 jaar oud en kan worden aanschouwd als een monument. We vinden de toren wel zeer mooi met zijn groene kap en de gouden engel. Aan de voorgevel zie je een standbeeld van Johan van Oldenbarnevelt die een raadgever was van de zoon van Willem van Oranje..
