Painted Hall of the Royal Naval College, Greenwich

The most beautiful room of the Royal Naval College in Greenwich is without any doubt, the Painted Hall. It was here that all the pupils and the teaching staff gathered for the main events of the year. It is just amazing and we wondered if this hall was not an inspiration for J.K. Rowling when inventing the main hall of the Hogwarts School. Harry Potter and his friends would feel here at home.

The ceilings and wall paintings are out of this world. Everything is in excellent shape. Artificial candles light up the giant room. It is no surprise that this monument gets a lot of visitors.

Alles is in uitstekende staat.

Chapel of the old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, London

These fantastic building in Greenwich dates from the late seventeenth century and was originally a hospital. The last century it became a Naval college. The exterior of the building is unbelievable and the chapel shows that religion was an important element in the lives of the future seamen.

In an expensive world city like London, this monument may be visited free of charge. The tower of the chapel is identical of the one of the Painted Hall. The ceiling and the painting behind the altar are eye catchers. Decorations below and on the balcony are so detailed. At the front of the chapel hangs a big golden organ.

Only when looking down it reminds us that this was a Naval College. The anchor, ship ropes and knots are symbolized in the floor.
