Exceptional Victory Arch Rua Augusta, Lisbon

The 30m high Rua Augusta looks similar as other Victory Arches in the world but is unique in its kind because it is connected and integrated in a palace. Both sides of the arch are connected to ministry offices. The statues on top of the monument and on each side are incredible. The centre piece displays shows us the coat of arm of Lisbon. Walking through the arch you feel small and on the other side there was only shadow, we could however not resist taking a picture of the giant clock.

De 30m hoge Rua Augusta ziet er gelijkaardig uit als andere triomfbogen in de wereld maar is toch uniek in zijn soort want ze is geïntegreerd in de paleizen. Beide zijden van de overwinningsboog zijn verbonden met kantoren van het ministerie. De standbeelden bovenop het monument en aan iedere kant zijn ongelooflijk. Het middenstuk toont ons het wapenschild van de stad Lissabon. Onder deze boog krijg je het gevoel zeer klein te zijn en aan de overkant was er enkel schaduw. Toch weerhield ons dit niet een foto te maken van de gigantische klok.
