Graffiti in the vicinity of Lisbon port area

Looking for graffiti in major cities around the world, we found some nice examples in the vicinity of the Lisbon port area. The robot man that holds a boat in his hands is a perfect piece of art but not all graffiti is art. Some of the small alleys look even a bit frightening. Luckily it was still daylight.

A bit further, an old deserted warehouse wall was covered with paintings of coloured dots, three headed women, an Indian girl riding a leopard, a yawning child, a man with a tiger head, horses and a robot holding a very nice girl.

We zoeken naar graffiti in alle grote steden ter wereld en vonden enkele mooie voorbeelden in de buurt van het havengebied van Lissabon. Een robotman houdt een boot in zijn handen, een perfect kunstwerk maar niet alle graffiti is kunst. Sommige steegjes zien er zelfs angstaanjagend uit, gelukkig was er nog daglicht. 

Een beetje verder stond een verlaten pakhuis bedekt met schilderwerken zoals gekleurde cirkels, een drie koppige vrouw, een indiaans meisje op een luipaard, een geeuwend kind, een man met tijgerkop, paarden en een robot die een leuke vrouw vasthoudt.

Street artists at the Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence

Unfortunately we did not have enough time to visit the Uffizi museum which has a rich art collection of Leonardo da Vinci and Caravaggio. The exterior of the building and gallery was also attractive and interesting. The columns are high and the inner gallery holds statues and pieces of art, like an enormous metal hand.

On the river bank just in front of the Uffizi Galleria stood a collection of sports cars. Probably for rent but it is hard to imagine tourists driving in a hectic city like Florence for their pleasure.

In the gallery, street artists offered to draw or paint portraits of people passing by. Some of them showed real talent. It was funny to see a lady taking a picture together with a living Egyptian mummy. The creativity to make money seems endless.

Spijtig genoeg hadden we niet genoeg tijd het Uffizi museum zelf te bezoeken met zijn rijke collectie van Leonardo da Vinci en Caravaggio. De buitenzijde van het gebouw en de galerij waren ook aantrekkelijk en interessant. De zuilen zijn erg hoog en binnen in de galerij staan vele beelden en kunstwerken zoals deze enorme metalen hand.

Aan de oever van de rivier juist tegenover de Uffizi Galleria stond een verzameling sportauto's. Waarschijnlijk voor de verhuur maar we kunnen ons niet voorstellen dat een toerist hier in het hectische Florence voor zijn plezier met een wagen zou willen rijden. 

In de galerij zelf boden artiesten aan uw portret te tekenen of te schilderen. Sommigen hadden echt talent. Het was grappig te zien hoe een dame een foto liet maken met een levende Egyptische mummie. De creativiteit van mensen om geld te verdienen lijkt eindeloos.

Buddy Bears promoting tolerance all over the world, Berlin

The Buddy Bear concept was developed in Berlin in 2001. At first it was intended for an exhibition with 350 hand painted Fiberglas bears displaying different cultural geographical topics on their body. The bear always had a special place in the heart of the Berliners because the animal is also part of the Coat of Arms of the city.

Nowadays you still find many Buddy Bears in Berlin but they are also spread all over the world. Each bear is privately owned by companies or organisations and the price paid for the piece of art went to a good cause for children in need. The Buddy Bear Foundation works closely together with UNICEF and is recognised by the United Nations to promote tolerance. The buddy Bears in the streets of Berlin gave us a good opportunity to take some interesting pictures.

Het “Buddy Bear” concept werd hier in Berlijn ontwikkeld in 2001. Eerst voor een tentoonstelling met 350 hand geschilderde beren, opgemaakt uit glasvezel, waarbij op hun lichaam verschillende culturele en geografische onderwerpen werden getoond. De beer heeft altijd al een speciale plaats in de harten van de Berlijnse bevolking gehad daar ook het wapenschil de van de stad een beer bevat. 

Vandaag vind je nog steeds veel van deze beren in de stad maar ze werden overal ter wereld verkocht. Iedere Buddy Bear is nu privaat eigendom van bedrijven of organisaties en de opbrengst van de verkoop ging naar het goede doel voor kinderen in nood. De Buddy Bear Foundation werkt nauw samen met UNICEF en is herkend door de UNITED NATIONS voor de promotie van verdraagzaamheid. De Buddy Bears in Berlijn hebben ons zeker enkele mooie foto’s bezorgt..
