Kata Beach, one of the popular beaches of Phuket

Next to Karon and Patong Beach, is Kata Beach one of the most popular beach locations of the island. It is very touristic and there is no shortage of bars, restaurants and water sports activities.

Kata Beach is very wide and most of the time safe to swim during the dry season. Flags on the beach show swimmers how safe or dangerous the sea is. The day we took these pictures, the sea was calm. Although enough waves to attempt surfing. We always like the combination of sun, sea, sand and trees. There is no shortage of this in Phuket.

Learn how to surf at the O’Neill Beach Club, Blankenberge

At the start of the walking promenade in Blankenberge, you find the O’Neill Beach Club. During the summer holidays there are lots of activities for kids and teenagers. The parents can leave them behind with confidence. They will be active, do sports, get to know others in the same age category and above all have fun. It’s just cool. We will write several articles about the club in the coming weeks but start now with the surfing.

At the Blankenberge pier starts the surf initiation with balance exercises on the promenade. Curious people have a look what’s going on. The next stand uses long skateboards to bring some movement in the exercises. On the sea participants are paddling on larger boards. They wear a wetsuit against the cold and for protection.

An instructor lies down in the wet sand and explains the basics to his students. This is a strange sight but probably efficient and professional. Let’s go into the water, this is an other challenge; luckily there is support from the experts. Swimming against the current right into the waves, it takes courage and now the first time standing up on the board. Congratulations.

If any one of the O’Neill Beach Club recognises these kids, feel free to share the link or request the original pictures via mail. Just leave a comment on the article and we will contact you.

Cocoa Beach, Florida, a surfers paradise

Driving from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale we decided not to go for the fastest route but to drive along the Florida coast line. We stopped at Cocoa Beach to enjoy a walk on the beach. This is a surfers paradise but we drove a little bit further to were the large sandy beach was deserted. Nature in its purest form.
