We are publishing again after a period intense travelling

For a period of almost two weeks it was impossible to publish any article due to intense travelling and very slow and expensive internet at sea. We have however written a lot and will publish in the coming weeks more articles than usual.

Voor een periode van bijna twee weken was het onmogelijk artikels te publiceren door onze intense reis en het zeer trage en dure internet op zee. We hebben echter veel geschreven en gaan de komende weken meer publiceren dan gebruikelijk.

Luxury Cruise on a Yacht

It was a unique experience, a day on a yacht cruise. The yacht is 23 meters long and holds 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, a terrace at the back, a sunroof on the front and a sitting area on the first floor. The hotel owns the yacht called "Twinplams One". The cook and crew provide you a nice lunch and water sports facilities.

Het was een unieke ervaring, een dagje uit op een luxe jacht. De 23 meter lange motorjacht heeft 3 slaapkamers, een keuken, woonkamer, terras achter, een zonnedek vooraan en een salon op het eerste verdiep. De jacht is eigendom van het hotel en noemt "Twinpalms One". De kok en bemanning zorgen voor een zeer goed middagmaal en watersport.

We leave Phuket via the Ao Po Grand Marina and cruise to Kai Nok. We enjoy the snorkeling in the clear turquoise water between the many coloured fishes. The current however is very strong and you have to pay attention not to drift away.

We verlaten Phuket via de Ao Po Grand Marina en varen naar Kai Nok. We snorkelen tussen de veelkleurige vissen in het glasheldere water. Het is echter opletten geblazen voor de zeer sterke stroming.

Bij aankomst op Rang Yai eiland eindigen we de dag met watersport (donut, waterskien).

Wat Chalong temple, Phuket

The Wat Chalong is the most important Buddhist temple of Phuket. It is certainly worth a visit. In a small conical construction people set off fire crackers to predict their future and give them fortune. Many people believe the temple protects them against illnesses.

De Wat Chalong is de belangrijkste boeddhistische tempel van Phuket. Het is een bezoek zeker waard. Er wordt regelmatig vuurwerk in een kleine kegelvormige constructie aanstoken waarbij de toekomst en het geluk van de gelovige wordt voorspeld. Vele mensen geloven dat de tempel hen beschermt tegen ziektes.

The temple is linked to two monks, Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang who are known for their herbal medicine development and the support they gave in resolving the tin miners rebellion in 1876.

De tempel wordt gelinkt aan twee monniken, Luang Pho Chaem en Luang Pho Chuang die bekend staan om hun kruidengeneeskunde en steun bij het oplossen van de kopermijn opstand in 1876.

Recently a 61 meter high Chedi was added to the temple complex where a fragment of a bone of Buddha is preserved. This fragment was trasferred from Sri Lanka and installed in the Chedi in 2002. All three floors of the Chedi are accesible for visitors. Inside you find many Buddha images and wall paintings.
Recent werd een 61 meter hoge Chedi bijgebouwd waar een fragment van een bot van Boeddha wordt bewaard. Dit fragment werd overgebracht uit Sri Lanka en in de Chedi geplaatst in 2002. De Chedi bestaat uit drie verdiepingen die allemaal kunnen worden bezocht. Binnen vindt je er vele Boeddha beelden en muurschilderingen.

Patong Beach - Phuket

Patong Beach is the busiest place on the island of Phuket. Everyone can find something they like in this city. At first you have the beach. It's big, all kinds of water sports are available and people are friendly.

Patong Beach is de drukste plaats van het eiland Phuket. Iedereen vindt wel iets leuks in deze stad. Als eerste is er het strand. Het is groot, je kan er aan watersport doen en de mensen zijn vriendelijk.

Patong becomes alive during the afternoon, people stroll alongside the many shops that offer souvenirs, clothing, watches and all kind of other stuff. Bargaining if you want to buy something is a necessity. Besides this, tailors and massage girls are widely present in the street and continiously try to offer you their services. If you are interested you can find a good deal, otherwise ignore them. Besides all of this you also have the big modern shopping centres like Jungceylon.Patong komt tot leven in de namiddag, mensen wandelen langs de vele winkeltjes die voornamelijk souveniers, kledij, horloges en allerlei andere spullen aan de man trachten te brengen. Afdingen op de aan te kopen waar is noodzakelijk. Naast dit zijn de massagemeisjes en kleermakers zeer sterk aanwezig in het straatbeeld en spreken je om de haverklap aan om hun diensten aan te bieden. Indien interesse kan je goede zaken doen, anders is negeren de boodschap. Naast dit alles heb je ook de moderne shopping centra zoals Jungceylon.

Sometimes they offer you strange services like your picture being taken with a chameleon or a prey bird. But also a massage by fish is one of the possibilities.Soms krijg je rare diensten aangeboden zoals je foto laten nemen met een kameleon of roofvogel. Maar ook massage door vissen is mogelijk.

At evenings it becomes busier in the restaurants and bars where customers, go go girls and katoi's (thai men that are now female) dance. Everywhere you see bright coloured lights. I would recommend the "White Box" restaurant for dinner on the north side of Patong where you have a nice view of the beach and the city.´s avonds wordt het nog drukker in de restaurants en bars waar klanten, go go girls and katoi´s (thaise mannen die nu vrouw zijn) dansen. Overal zie je felle gekleurde lichtjes. Een aanrader om te dineren is het "White Box" restaurant in het noorden van Patong. Je hebt er ook een mooi zicht over het strand en de stad.

Driving around on Phuket island

This was a big adventure for us, because in Phuket they drive on the left side of the road. With the car from the hotel we explored the island for one day.

The most beautiful places we visited were: the Wat Chalong temple, the big Buddha image (46 meter high, on a hill), Rawai beach, Karon beach and Patong City.
Voor ons was dit een groot avontuur daar in Phuket aan de linker kant van de weg wordt gereden. We hebben een auto van het hotel gehuurd en de hele dag het eiland verkend.

De mooiste plaatsen die we hebben bezocht waren: de Wat Chalong tempel, het grote Buddha beeld (46 meter hoog, op een heuvel), Rawai beach, Karon Beach en Patong stad.

Twinpalms Hotel - Phuket

The "Twinpalms"hotel in Phuket is our favourite hotel for a beach holiday. In its tropical garden and large swimming pool you come to rest. Its restaurant uses top ingredients like lobster, wagyu, sashimi, agnus beef.... The Brunch on Sunday's is excellent and comparable to the quality of the brunch of a "The Four Seasons" hotel. This hotel is rightfully earned the label of "Small Luxury Hotel of the World".

BBQ's at the "Catch Beach" club, the bar on the beach, reading in a couch on the beach terrace... It makes it all complete.

Het "Twinpalms" hotel in Phuket is ons favoriete hotel voor een strandvakantie. Je komt tot rust in de tropische tuin met zwembad. Het restaurant gebruikt top ingredienten in zijn keuken zoals kreeft, wagyu, sashimi, angus filet... De brunch op zondag is uitstekend en te vergelijken met de kwaliteit van een "The Four Seasons" brunch. Dit hotel is terecht opgenomen in de gids van "Small Luxury Hotels of the World".

BBQ's in de "Catch Beach" club, de bar op het strand, lezen in de zetels op het strandterras... het maakt alles volmaakt.

Wat Suhat and the Giant Swing – (en de reuze schommel) Bangkok

The Giant Swing was build by King Rama II (1809-1824) to honour and thank the god Shiva for the rice harvest. The festivities around the Giant Swing also requested Shiva a good harvest the next time. During this celebration period Shiva would visit the earth for 10 days. During celebrations men sometimes swung more than 25 meters in the air. Due to many accidents this is now frobidden.
De enorme schommel is gebouwd geweest onder het bewint van Rama II (1809-1824) om de god Shiva te danken voor de rijstoogst. De festiviteiten aan de schommel stemden Shiva gunstig voor de volgende oogst. Tijdens deze periode zou de god Shiva de aarde voor 10 dagen bezoeken. Tijdens de festiviteiten schommelden mannen soms meer als 25 meter hoog in de lucht. Door de vele ongevallen is dit nu verboden.

The Wat Suhat temple houses an 8 meter high bronze Buddha statue which contains the ashes of King Rama VIII. This temple has received the highest temple grading in Thailand.

Around the temple you find many Chinese Pagodas and bronze horses. The legend claims that these were transported from China to Thailand as ballast together with the rice harvest of China at the beginning of the 19th century.

In de Wat Suhat tempel staat een bronzen Boeddha beeld van meer als 8 meter hoog en bevat de asresten van koning Rama VIII. Deze tempel heeft de hoogste tempelgraad in Thailand.

Rond de tempel staan vele Chinese Pagodes en bronzen paarden. De legende vertelt dat deze werden overgebracht uit China als ballast voor de schepen die de rijstoogst naar Thailand brachten in het begin van de 19de eeuw.
