Happy pills, a surprising candy store in Barcelona

We were walking in the streets of Barcelona and saw a strange looking pharmacy with a pink cross. The store is called "Happy Pills" and is in fact a sales point for candy. It has nothing to do with medicine, although they claim to sell happiness pills. Be careful not to take an overdose. Kristel poses with a big box, she is smiling, would it really work?

We compare this store a bit with other great marketing concept stores like the ones from Disney, M&M, and Coca Cola and Build a Bear. A good idea and we are sure it boosts sales.

We waren aan het wandelen in de straten van Barcelona en zagen een rare apotheek met een roos kruis. De winkel noemde "Happy Pills" en is in feite een verkooppunt voor snoep. Het heeft totaal niets te maken met medicijnen. Alhoewel men toch beweert blijheidspillen te verkopen. Wel opletten dat je geen overdosis neemt. Kristel begon al te lachen toen ze een grote doos vastnam, zou het echt werken? 

We vergelijken "Happy Pills" een beetje met andere grote marketing concept winkels zoals deze van Disney, M&M, Coca Cola en Build a Bear. Een goed idee dat vast en zeker de verkoop aanwakkert.

Local home made Turkish Delight sweets and candy, Istanbul

On the Resadiye Caddesi you find many candy and spice shops. The displays look great. Glass containers contain spice powder, herbs, nuts, dried fruit and candy. The Turks just love sweet things and this is clearly visible in their stores and dessert selections of Baklava.

We entered a store with the sign "Home Made Turkish Delight and Spice Cafe". Everything looked nice and the staff was friendly. I requested to take pictures and this was no problem. We are not big fans of sweets but out of politeness we tried a few different kinds of Turkish Delight. We were positively surprised and bought two different types.

But what did we now buy? What is Turkish Delight? Well these are square half soft jelly pieces which contain dried fruit and nuts. They are also covered in some kind of flower. The ones we bought had orange and berry flavours.

Op de Resadiye Caddesi vind je vele snoep- en kruidenwinkels. Het eten wordt op een aantrekkelijke wijze voorgesteld. Glazen bakken bevatten kruidenpoeder, verse kruiden blaadjes, noten, droog fruit en snoep. De Turken houden van zoetigheden en dat is overduidelijk in de winkels en hun dessert selecties van baklava.

We gingen een winkel binnen met reclamebord "Huis gemaakt Turks Fruit en kruidencafé". Alles zag er goed uit en de bedienden waren vriendelijk. Er was geen probleem om foto's te maken. Wij zijn echter geen grote liefhebbers van zoetigheden maar uit beleefdheid hebben we toch enkele soorten Turks Fruit uitgeprobeerd. We waren positief verrast en kochten twee verschillende smaken. 

Maar wat kochten we eigenlijk? Wat is Turks Fruit? Wel het zijn half zachte blokjes bestaande uit gelei, gedroogd fruit en nootjes. Ze zijn in een soort bloem ondergedompeld. Wij kochten er met sinaasappel en bessen smaak..

Playful candy displays and top marketing in M&M Store, London

At the corner of Leicester Square and Coventry Street, you find the London M&M Store. It is impossible to miss it, certainly in the evening when all the neon flash lights are lit. Strange to realise that this is all about these little peanuts covered in chocolate and merchandising, the extreme side of marketing and it works.

Walking through the store, I was surprised how many people were buying these products. The displays were fantastic and adjusted to the London theme, M&M's with the Union Jack, in a double decker bus, dressed up as a Royal Guard... If you pass by, you have to go inside.

Op de hoek van Leicester Square and Coventry Street vind je de M&M Store. Het is onmogelijk deze niet te zien, zeker 's avonds wanneer alle neon lichten aan zijn. Wat raar dat dit alles draait om die kleine pinda nootjes met een laagje chocolade er om heen. De meest extreme vorm van product merchandising en het werkt. 

Door de winkel wandelend, was ik verbaasd dat veel mensen allerlei zaken aan het kopen waren. De opstelling van de goederen was fantastisch en aangepast aan de stad Londen. M&M's met de Union Jack, op een dubbeldeksbus, verkleed als Koninklijke Wacht... Als je hier langs komt, moet je zeker binnen gaan, het loont de moeite..
