The last flowers of our garden before the end of the summer

September is arriving and the garden is almost winter ready. Temperatures are dropping and before you know it the summer flowers will disappear. We try to catch the last evening sun on the terrace. One last glimpse on the flowers, a few pictures and wait until the next season starts. The brown and yellow colours of fall are expected soon.

September komt er aan en de tuin is bijna winter klaar. De temperatuur zakt zienderogen en zeer binnenkort gaan de zomerbloemen verdwijnen. We proberen 's avonds nog enkele zonnestralen op het terras mee te pikken. Een laatste blik op de bloemen, enkele foto's en nu wachten op het volgende seizoen. De bruine en gele kleuren van de herfst zullen snel intreden.

Our dogs enjoy the outdoors during summer time

Although it has been hot last week, our dogs enjoy playing outside. I was sitting on the terrace and saw them running inside and outside the house and became conscious that it was a while ago since we had published pictures of our dogs on the blog.

Once I had my camera by me, they played it difficult. Ha you want to take pictures, now I turn my head. No, I don't want to pose. After a while they came out again, one by one, standing at the door, is the camera away?

We also took the camera on our walk. It generated nice shots with the green grass and the dogs running. When it is too hot, we don't allow them to play with a ball but most of the days it was still possible. The Golden Retriever (Tessa) is now three years old and the Shi Tzu (Tommie) is eight.

Alhoewel het zeer heet was de laatste week genoten onze honden er toch van buiten te spelen. Ik zat op het terras en zag hen regelmatig naar binnen en buiten lopen. Toen werd ik me bewust dat het een tijdje geleden was dat we nog foto's van onze honden gepubliceerd hadden op de blog. 

Vanaf het moment ik mijn camera bij mij had, begonnen ze moeilijk te doen. Ha, je wil foto's van ons maken, nu draai ik mijn kop weg. Nee, ik wil niet poseren. Na een tijdje deden ze weer normaal en kwamen ze buiten, een voor een stonden ze aan de deur, is de camera weg? 

Ook op de wandeling nam ik het fototoestel mee. We trokken enkele mooie foto's in het fel groene gras terwijl de honden liepen. Als het te heet is mogen ze niet met de bal spelen maar de meeste dagen was dit nog mogelijk. De Golden Retriever (Tessa) is nu drie jaar oud en de Shi Tzu (Tommie) is acht..

Finally the weather is better and the summer flowers in our garden are open

We had to wait a while for the real start of the summer but now the sun is there. The last two days it was around 30 degrees and the flowers in our garden are open. Many people who pass by stop for a look. Kristel has done an excellent job in the garden, each season new plants and flowers are blossoming. It looks like every few months we have a different garden. This serie of pictures is showing the blossoming process over time.

We hebben lang moeten wachten vooraleer het echt zomer werd maar de zon is eindelijk daar. De laatste twee dagen was het 30 graden warm en de bloemen in de tuin staan in vol ornaat. Vele wandelaars stoppen even om naar de tuin te kijken. De tuinarchitect van dienst is mijn vrouwtje Kristel, die hier een uitstekende job heeft gedaan. Ieder seizoen zie je nieuwe planten en andere bloemen die in bloei staan. Het lijkt wel dat we na een paar maanden weer een andere tuin hebben. Deze serie foto’s toont het bloei proces in de tijd.

Summer flowers and History Column at the Josef Görres-Platz in Koblenz

To celebrate our 100th articles of Germany, we go back to last summer in the hope that the sun will join us soon in the cold spring period. The Josef Görres-Platz in Koblenz has some nice buildings and many landscaped areas with beautiful flowers, mainly Roses and Dahlias. In the middle of the square you see the large History Column with at the lowest level a fountain above a wine ship. The column displays 2.000 years of Koblenz history. Ten major events are worked out in the column and most of them are representing wars. I will not go deeper into this topic and dream away of the warm weather we hope to get in the coming weeks.

Om ons 100ste artikel van Duitsland te vieren, hebben we in ons archief van vorige zomer gegraven en hopen we dat de zon snel zijn intrede in de lente zal maken. De Josef Görres-Platz in Koblenz wordt omringt door mooie huizen, het heeft verschillende aangelegde bloemenpercelen met hoofdzakelijk rozen en Dalia's. In het midden van het plein zie je de Historische Zuil, die 2.000 jaar van de geschiedenis van de stad uitbeeld. Op het laagste niveau vaart er een wijnschip waarboven een fontein water spuit. De meeste taferelen in de zuil beelden oorlogen uit en daar gaan we niet verder op in gaan. We dromen weg van de mooie zonovergoten dagen die we in de komende weken kunnen verwachten..

The Pantheon, the architectural wonder of a 2.000 years old temple in Rome

The Pantheon is not only a Roman temple that was built in the year 126 AC but it is also an architectural wonder for several reasons. The first reason is that it is intact and the 7 metre tick walls are still the originals. The height and the diameter of the dome are exactly the same with 43,3 metres. The oculus or the opening in the dome has a diameter of 9 metres. It supported the structure against earthquakes but the most important function can be found in the astrology. The Equinox days, 21 March and 22 September, which are the start of spring and the end of the summer, are important days for the agriculture. On those days at noon, the sun light shines through the oculus directly enlightening the main entrance of the Pantheon. The Pantheon was built like that on purpose because at this ceremonial time, the emperor is supposed to enter the temple to honour the Gods. How is it possible that people could build such a large and strong construction, with exact measurements at the right place and angle, 2.000 years ago? This is hard to understand; nowadays some construction companies can not even pull up a straight wall in a simple house.

Het Pantheon is niet enkel een Romeinse tempel die werd gebouwd in het jaar 126, maar is ook een architecturaal wonder voor verschillende redenen. Eerst omdat de constructie nog steeds intact is met de 7 meter dikke originele muren. De hoogte en de diameter van het gebouw zijn exact aan elkaar gelijk, met name 43,3 meter. De oculus, het oog, of de opening bovenin de koepel heeft een diameter van 9 meter. Deze opening beschermde de tempel tegen de trillingen van aardbevingen, maar zijn belangrijkste functie kan worden teruggevonden in de astronomie. De Equinox dagen, 21 maart en 22 september, met de start van de lente en het einde van de zomer, zijn zeer belangrijk voor de landbouw. Op die dagen, 12 uur ’s middags schijnt de zon door de Oculus recht op de hoofdingang van de tempel. Op dat moment komt de keizer binnen om de Goden te eren. Hoe is het mogelijk dat mensen 2.000 jaar geleden zo’n grote, sterke tempel, volgens exacte afmetingen, met de juiste hoek en plaats hebben gebouwd. Dit is toch zeer moeilijk te begrijpen als je in onze moderne tijd constructie bedrijven hebt die nog geen rechte muur kunnen plaatsen in een simpel huis.
