Super walk at Ecological Reserve Costanera Sur, Buenos Aires

This nature reserve is very small but located at the edge of the city between the modern Madero district and the Atlantic Ocean. At the southern entrance you see the Nereids Fountain. The large grass fields you see on the pictures are in fact lakes. The water is however not visible due to the dense grasslands. A bit like some parts of the Everglades.

Costanera Sur has a big variety of plants, flowers and birds. We met many bird-watchers and people jogging which seems to be a popular activity. It is certainly a better place to do sports than the hectic city center of Buenos Aires.

On our walk we felt completely relaxed, away from the city. Occasionally you are reminded how close the skyscrapers are when a few trees make place for an open space. An ideal location to make a few pictures and the nature reserve looks very safe.

Dit beschermd natuurgebied is heel klein en gelegen aan de rand van de stad tussen de moderne Madero wijk en de Atlantische Oceaan. Bij de zuidelijke ingang zie je de Nereids Fontein. De grote grasvelden op de foto's zijn in feite meren. Het water is echter niet zichtbaar vanwege het dicht begroeide riet. Dit is vergelijkbaar met sommige delen van de Everglades.

Costanera Sur bevat een grote verscheidenheid aan planten, bloemen en vogels. Hier zagen we veel bird-watchers en joggers, wat er heel populair is. Het is ontegensprekelijk een betere locatie om aan sport te doen dan het chaotische stadscentrum van Buenos Aires. 

Op onze wandeling kwamen we volledig tot rust, even weg uit de stad. Af en toe werden we herinnerd hoe dicht we wel waren als we door de bomen de wolkenkrabbers zagen. Een ideale plaats om foto's te trekken en het natuurgebied lijkt ons heel veilig.

A great tip for cruise passengers, free and guaranteed lizard spotting, Aruba

When your cruise ship docks, you sometimes want to explore the port area by yourself instead of booking an excursion. In this article we explain how to spot lizards in Aruba after a short easy walk alongside shops and the yacht harbour. This is a tip for your own free tour in Oranjestad, Aruba.

Walk out the port and turn right on the L.G. Smith Boulevard. About 500m further on your right site, you see the shopping centre of the Renaissance Ocean Suites and here you go to the right again. After 100m you reach the end of the garden and see the rock formations. You have an excellent view on the cruise ships and the lizards. They are just everywhere and some of them are more than a metre long.

At a certain moment Kristel stood next to a bush and I said to her: turn a little bit to the right, there was a green lizard eating leaves and he was sitting about 50cm from here shoulder. The lizards are masters in camouflage; they are grey on the rocks and green in the bushes. We really enjoyed taking photo’s there.

Als je cruise schip in de haven ligt, wil je soms zonder begeleiding de stad in trekken, in plaats van een excursie te boeken. Dit artikel beschrijft hoe je enorme hagedissen in de natuur van Aruba kan spotten. Na een kleine gemakkelijke wandeling langs winkeltjes en de jachthaven bereik je de ideale spotplaats. Dit is een tip voor uw eigen gratis uitstap in Oranjestad. 

Je wandelt de haven uit en gaat naar rechts op de L.G. Smith Boulevard. Na 500m zie je op de rechterzijde het winkelcentrum van de Renaissance Ocean Suites, hier ga je terug naar rechts. Na 100m bereik je het einde van de tuin en zie je de rotsformaties. Wat een fantastisch zicht op de cruiseschepen en hagedissen. De grijze en groene kleppers liggen overal en sommigen zijn meer als een meter lang. 

Op een bepaald moment staat Kristel naast een struik en zeg ik: draai je traag om naar rechts. Er was een enorme groene hagedis bladeren aan het eten op ongeveer 50cm van haar schouder. De hagedissen zijn meesters in camouflage, op de rotsen zijn ze grijs, in de struiken groen. We hebben echt genoten hier foto’s te trekken..

Salzburg a major Austrian city where culture and nature melt together

When we think of visiting Austria, most of us think about skiing and the Alps. There are however two major cities in the country which have incredible historical treasures. This is the capital Vienna and the second most important city of Austria, namely Salzburg. It is a bit strange because the town only has a population of about 150.000 inhabitants. Next to the fact that Salzburg is the birthplace of Mozart and the “Sound of Music”, it blends in with nature.

Right through the city flows the Salzach river who brings cold and fresh water down from the Alps. A small metal bridge in remembrance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart helps pedestrians to cross the river. It’s called Mozartsteg and was built in 1903.

In the city centre of Salzburg you find small parks, flower beds, houses decorated with flowers, people investing a lot of time in gardening. The city is in fact located in the hills and just a few kilometres further they rise into the alps. Do you remember the flower fields and meadows where Julie Andrews sang “The Hills are alive”. Well, that’s here in this region where the famous movie “The Sound of Music” of the family Von Trapp was recorded. We hope you enjoy our nature pictures of Salzburg. If it is not possible for you to visit the city, maybe you should consider looking at the “Sound of Music” again on DVD.

Als we een reis naar Oostenrijk overwegen, dan denken we meestal aan skiën, de Alpen of bergwandelingen. Er zijn echter twee grote steden in het land die een ware verzameling van historische schatten zijn. Dit is Wenen, de hoofdstad van Oostenrijk en de tweede belangrijkste stad van het land Salzburg. Het is wel verbazend dat Salzburg 150.000 inwoners telt en toch zo belangrijk is. Naast het feit dat het de geboorteplaats is van Mozart en de “Sound of Music” smelt de stad gewoon samen met de natuur. 

Door het midden van de stad stroomt de Salzach Rivier die het heldere en koude water van de Alpen meevoert. Een kleine metalen brug ter herdenking van Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart helpt voetgangers naar de overzijde. Dit is de Mozartsteg en ze werd gebouwd in 1903. 

In het stadscentrum van Salzburg vind je vele kleine parken, bloemenperken, huisjes met groen en bloemen gedecoreerd en mensen investeren tijd in de aanleg van hun tuin. De stad ligt in feite in de heuvels die op enkele kilometers afstand rijzen tot de Alpen. Herinner je nog de bloemenvelden en weiden waar Julie Andrews zong, “The Hills are alive”. Wel, het is hier dat de wereldberoemde film “The Sound of Music” met de Von Trapp familie werd opgenomen. We hopen dat je van onze Salzburg natuurfoto’s kan genieten. Als het niet mogelijk voor je is Salzburg te bezoeken kan je het overwegen de “Sound of Music” nog eens op DVD te bekijken..

On our way to Stockholm via the Swedish archipelago

In the middle of the night, Celebrity Constellation entered the Swedish archipelago. This is a string of islands from the open Baltic Sea up to the capital Stockholm. Crossing this beautiful nature reserve takes about 4,5 hours one way. Even at night, the sun was already up and shining brightly. It only becomes dark for a few hours a day during this time of the year. It was a relaxing journey to the capital of Sweden and we were already up at 4 in the morning.

In het midden van de nacht vaarde de Celebrity Constellation door de Zweedse archipel. Dit is een groep eilandjes en natuur van aan de monding van de Baltische zee tot aan Stockholm. Het doorkruisen van dit natuurgebied duurt ongeveer 4,5 uur in iedere richting. Zelfs ’s nachts was de zon reeds op en baadde alles in het licht. Deze tijd van het jaar wordt het slechts enkele uren per dag donker. Het was een rustige vaart naar de hoofdstad van Zweden maar we waren reeds op om 4 uur in de ochtend..

The nature of Oman is fantastic, we start with Fans beach

With a Toyota Land cruiser, we are on our way to conquer the rough off road terrain of mountains and beaches. With a normal car, this would not be possible. Just before Fan Beach and this has nothing to with groupies from a pop artist but is the name of the area, we visit a pit. In an area of around hundred metres the ground has collapsed and left a huge crater. In the crater you see green coloured water, an effect which is created due to the connection with fresh sea water. Further on the road we are stopped by a group of wild goats. In many places you see hordes of goats or camels running around in the wild. Fans Beach has stunning cliffs, carpets of rocks, sandy beach areas and the sea is warm. Ideally for a swim before having lunch with our private guide and driver from Zahara Tours.

Met een Toyota Land cruiser zijn we onderweg om het ruwe terrein van Oman te overwinnen. Met een normale wagen was zoiets nooit mogelijk geweest. Bij het naderen van Fans Beach, en dit heeft niets te maken met fans van een popartiest, maar de naam van het gebied, stoppen we aan een grote put. Over ongeveer honderd meter is de grond weggezakt en blijft er enkel een krater over. Beneden in de krater zie je groen gekleurd water, dit effect wordt veroorzaakt door de toevoer van vers zeewater. Verder op de weg worden we gestopt door een horde wilde geiten. In vele plaatsen zien we geiten en kamelen vrij rondlopen in de natuur. Fans Beach heeft mooie kliffen, rotsstrand, zandstrand en heerlijk warm water om in te zwemmen. Ideaal vooraleer we lunchen met onze privé gids en chauffeur van Zahara Tours..
