While I am writing this first part of the report, Kristel is working on her make-up. It takes a bit longer for a girl to do her hair than for a man. This small break before breakfast provides me the opportunity to write a bit of our preparation for such a big international competition.
In the first hour we do our hair and make up. After this we have a long breakfast to relax. It is now 2,5 hours before the start of our first round. We walk from the hotel to the sports Hal with our dance gear. Filip collects our start number. We check out the floor and warming up possibilities. Our warming up and short technical training starts. We get dressed. We are now 30 minutes before the first round. Kristel's parents are already on the main tribune seating area, waiting for the start. A final warming up session and building up the adrenaline. Remember to stay calm on the floor, do not exaggerate, keep it clean. There we go!
We are pleased with our performance because we could apply all technical attention points in our five dances. It was not a 100% but a considerable part of each dance. Maybe due to this the total quality of our dancing was affected but that's part of the learning process. We were not through to the next round and end the competition in place 10 out of 12 couples. This is a disappointing because we realised our own technical goals in Cambrils. Next time better, never give up.
Terwijl ik dit eerste deel van het verslag schrijf is Kristel haar make-up aan het afwerken. Dat duurt toch wel wat langer voor een vrouw dan bij een man. Deze kleine rustperiode voor het ontbijt geeft mij de mogelijkheid iets te schrijven over de voorbereidingsfase van een grote buitenlandse wedstrijd.
Tijdens het eerste uur doen me onze make-up en haar. Hierna een ontspannend ontbijt. Het is nu 2,5 uur voor de start van onze eerste ronde. We wandelen van het hotel naar de sporthal met onze dansuitrusting. Filip haalt het startnummer op. Wij kijken na hoe de vloer er bij ligt en waar we kunnen opwarmen. Onze warming up en technische herhaling start. We kleden ons om. Het is nu 30 minuten voor de start. Kristel's ouders wachten ongeduldig op de hoofdtribune. Nog even de spieren warm houden en de adrenaline opbouwen. Onthoud kalm te blijven op de vloer, niet overdrijven en denk er aan strak te dansen. Daar gaan we!
We zijn blij met onze prestatie want we pasten al onze vooropgestelde technische elementen toe. Misschien niet voor 100% maar een groot deel van elke dans. Misschien werd hierdoor de totale kwaliteit wat aangetast maar dat maakt deel uit van het leerproces. We plaatsten ons niet voor de finale en eindigen de competitie in plaats 10 van 12 paren. Dit is een teleurstelling daar we onze technische doel wel bereikt hebben in Cambrils. Volgende keer beter, nooit opgeven.
