This is a bigger fortress than the one we saw in the Muscat harbour. It is around 1.500 years old. Many areas in Oman have a fort. It was used as residence for the rulers of the area or the so called Wali’s. In this case the fort is located on a hill overlooking the oasis and its inhabitants. The fort contains several apartments and you still see how people lived in the past. It also contains a prison and several defence mechanism against intruders. Have a look at the pictures.

Goodness, it is built upon a rock! Reminds me of when Jesus said he would build his church upon this rock. The walkways are beautiful!! And those divine cushions! I would have loved to tour this, and it looks in very good shape, was it renovated? Did the tour cost to get in?
ReplyDeletegroetjes, Joop
This is a different world! To get to this fort you have to walk so many stairs up I think.
ReplyDeleteAmazing architecture of the fort! It was so protected from enemies and you could observe so far away any suspicious movement around this place.
Great pictures and all of them just magnificent.
