Church of St Catherine where Christmas has a special meaning, Bethlehem

The church of St. Catherine in Bethlehem is very nice. Rather simple but you get a good feeling of the interior. The arches on the ceiling are yellow and provide a warm atmosphere. On the entrance square you see the statue of St. Jerome who was a local bible translator. The church which is located next to the Grotto of the Nativity is the location from where on Christmas Eve, a mass is broadcasted to the whole world. Before the mass a Christmas procession takes place in the streets of Bethlehem. So even if you have not been here, it could be that you have seen this church on TV.

De kerk van van Sint Catherine in Bethlehem is zeer mooi. Wat eenvoudig maar je krijgt een goed gevoel bij het interieur, de gele plafondbogen zorgen voor een warme sfeer. Bij het inkomplein vindt je een standbeeld van St. Jerome, een lokale Bijbelvertaler. De kerk is gelegen naast de Grot van de Geboorte. Dit is de locatie waar op kerstavond de beroemde Kerstmis van Bethlehem wereldwijd wordt uitgezonden. Gedurende die dag gaat er ook een Kerstprocessie uit in de straten van Bethlehem. Zelfs al ben je hier nog niet geweest, het kan zijn dat je op kerstavond deze kerk reeds gezien hebt op TV..
