A Bateau Mouche trip on the Seine in Paris

What to do in Paris when you have only a few hours? Taking a Bateau Mouche could be a good option. The Seine is a major river that runs through the city of Paris. Many companies offer trips for tourists in open boats alongside the river bank to see some of the major Paris attractions like: The Eifel Tower, the Louvre and the Notre-Dame cathedral. The most famous name for such a boat is a Bateau Mouche. We like the sight of such a vessel sailing by with many people on it, listening to a guide while we enjoy a walk on the river bank.

Wat kan je doen in Parijs als je slechts enkele uren vrij hebt? Het nemen van een Bateau Mouche kan een mogelijkheid zijn. De Seine is een grote rivier die recht door het hart van Parijs stroomt. Veel bedrijven bieden riviertochten aan in open boten langs vele van de belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden zoals: de Eiffeltoren, het Louvre en de Notre-Dame kathedraal. De meest gebruikte naam voor zo’n boot is de Bateau Mouche. Wij kunnen echt genieten van een wandeling langs de Seine en observeren de voorbijvarende boten vol toeristen met hun gids.

The Louvre museum in Paris, one of the top three museums in the world

During our last visit to Paris we did not enter the Louvre museum but the exterior is also fantastic. We are regularly in Paris, so when it is raining we will visit the museum again. The pictures below really show the impressiveness and beauty of this enormous palace with more than 60.000 m² exposition space. Too much to visit in one day. The Louvre was a palace and residence of the French Royals but during the French revolution in 1789, the Louvre palace was heavily damaged by the raging population of Paris. A few years later the Louvre museum was born and is now not only one of the largest museums in the world but also one of the oldest. During expansion works of the Louvre in 2004 a modern element in the form of a glass pyramid was added to this historical building. We like this modern touch. I can’t wait to go back again and look at the most famous pieces of the art collection like the Mona Lisa from Leonardo Da Vinci. The Louvre and some pieces of the collection have been used several times in popular movies like “The Da Vinci Code”, “Entrapment”, “2012”, and many others. So if you ask yourself what to do when it rains: visit the Louvre in Paris.

Tijdens ons laatste bezoek aan Parijs zijn we het Louvre museum niet binnen gegaan maar de buitenzijde is ook fantastisch. We bezoeken Parijs regelmatig, dus als het regent komen we zeker terug voor een museum bezoek. De foto’s hieronder tonen aan hoe indrukwekkend en mooi dit enorme paleis is met meer dan 60.000 m² tentoonstellingscapaciteit. Teveel om in één dag te bezoeken. Het Louvre paleis was ook de residentie van de Franse koningen, maar gedurende de Franse Revolutie in 1789 werd het paleis zwaar beschadigd door een razende bevolking. Een paar jaar later werd het Louvre Museum geboren en is nu één van de grootste en oudste musea ter wereld. Gedurende de uitbreidingswerken in 2004 werd een modern element in de vorm van een glazen piramide aan het historische gebouw toegevoegd. We houden wel van zo’n modern tintje. Vol ongeduld kijken we reeds uit naar een volgend bezoek om de meesterwerken uit de collectie te kunnen aanschouwen zoals de Mona Lisa van Leonardo Da Vinci. Het Louvre en zijn meesterwerken zijn regelmatig gebruikt in populaire films zoals: “The Da Vinci Code”, “Entrapment”, “2012”, en vele andere.
