The Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, home of the Hunchback Quasimodo

This French Gothic church from 1345 is one of the most visited churches in the world. I admire that Paris is not requesting an entry fee for visitors. The Notre Dame cathedral was crowded, even though it was early morning, there were already a few hundred people queuing to get in. The doors to enter are very high and surrounded by incredible sculptured arches as you see on the pictures. Inside the church it was very busy but o so beautiful: high arched ceilings decorated with fine chandeliers, amazing glass works, super paintings, sculptures… Many children from all over the world know this church from the Walt Disney animation movie “The Hunchback of the Notre Dame”. This movie was based on the novel of Victor Hugo already written in 1831 and more than 10 times filmed. As visitor it is possible to discover the towers were Quasimodo was hiding but the queue to enter was far too long and we did not have enough time. It will be for one of our next visits.

Deze Frans Gotische kerk uit 1345 is één van de meest bezochte kerken ter wereld. Het is lovenswaardig dat de stad Parijs geen inkomgeld vraagt voor bezoekers. Reeds in de vroege ochtend was het er zeer druk, honderden mensen waren aan het wachten om de Notre Dame kathedraal binnen te gaan. Het inkomportaal is enorm hoog en versiert met beeldhouwwerken op gotische bogen. Binnen in de kerk was het zeer druk en o zo mooi: hoge booggewelven gedecoreerd met fijne kandelaars, fantastische glasramen, super schilderijen, standbeelden,.... Vele kinderen van overal ter wereld kennen deze kerk van de Walt Disney film “De Klokkenluider van de Notre Dame”. De film is gebaseerd op het boek van Victor Hugo geschreven in 1831 en meer als 10 keer verfilmd. Het is ook mogelijk de torens te bezoeken waar Quasimodo zich verborg, maar de wachtrij was zo langs dat we niet genoeg tijd hadden om naar boven te gaan. Het zal voor één van de volgende bezoeken zijn..
