Pure fish restaurant Miramar in Cambrils

Restaurant Miramar in Cambrils has a nice interior. Tables are well set-up and staff is friendly. It is a higher class family restaurant with a robust style of fish preparation. The sommelier is tending to recommend dry white wines with the menu.

We started with a seafood tartar and a lobster salad. As second starter we had the Gatell style scampi prepared in a creamy orange sauce, it was delicious. As main courses we had squid and monk fish.

The restaurant offers a large selection of patisserie at your choice. An excellent finish after a fish menu.

Dancing at the Costa Dorada, Cambrils

This weekend we were at the Costa Dorada to dance in a Senior I open standard world ranking and watch the European Championship Adults Standard. We had a great time and four out of our five dances were of good quality. We had hopes to progress to the semifinal but unfortunately we became 13th with 12 couples going through.

Currently we have a World Ranking position of 80 but because we didn't make this semifinal we will probably drop a few more places. The level of the European Championship was however spectacular and we watched all dances.

Pleasure boats in the port of Cambrils

Don't expect a cruise port or large ships in Cambrils. This is a tourist location and the only boats present are for fun and pleasure. When you enjoy the sea, tour operators offer day or half day trips with sail boats or huge catamarans. We were interested for such a trip with the catamaran but it was fully booked.

On the walking promenade next to the port you find street art collections. Probably Cambrils uses this to uplift its image as high class beach location. It seems to work because several multi euro yachts are docked here.

Staying in the nice Tryp Port hotel, Cambrils

It was hard to find a hotel in Cambrils and we feared the hotel would be very average. We selected the four star Tryp Port Hotel and were pleasantly surprised. As well the rooms and the breakfast were top quality. A very good price quality ratio.

It is located only 200 metres from the beach and they have their own underground parking facilities. A luxury which is very convenient in the busy city center. When we go back, we will book the same hotel.

General Impressions of Cambrils, a popular beach town in Catalonia

The beach town of Cambrils is not that big but a very popular tourist location. We were surprised by this because after visiting Cadiz, Barcelona, Cartagena and Malaga, all located at the beach in Spain, non of those towns could even come close to the number of visitors we encountered on the streets of Cambrils.

We wonder why? Could the reason be the wide beach with palm trees, the old historical buildings like the tower on the third picture, the street art or flowers? Whatever it is, it was so crowded that we could hardly walk on the beach promenade in the evening.

We vragen os af waarom?

WDSF Open Senior I - Standard in Cambrils, Spain

While I am writing this first part of the report, Kristel is working on her make-up. It takes a bit longer for a girl to do her hair than for a man. This small break before breakfast provides me the opportunity to write a bit of our preparation for such a big international competition.

In the first hour we do our hair and make up. After this we have a long breakfast to relax. It is now 2,5 hours before the start of our first round. We walk from the hotel to the sports Hal with our dance gear. Filip collects our start number. We check out the floor and warming up possibilities. Our warming up and short technical training starts. We get dressed. We are now 30 minutes before the first round. Kristel's parents are already on the main tribune seating area, waiting for the start. A final warming up session and building up the adrenaline. Remember to stay calm on the floor, do not exaggerate, keep it clean. There we go!

We are pleased with our performance because we could apply all technical attention points in our five dances. It was not a 100% but a considerable part of each dance. Maybe due to this the total quality of our dancing was affected but that's part of the learning process. We were not through to the next round and end the competition in place 10 out of 12 couples. This is a disappointing because we realised our own technical goals in Cambrils. Next time better, never give up.

Tijdens het eerste uur doen me onze make-up en haar. Onze warming up en technische herhaling start. Daar gaan we!

Volgende keer beter, nooit opgeven.
