Nostalgic amusement park on Tibidabo hill, Barcelona

You can reach the top of the hill via a tram and funicular. The first part from the city center we did by foot but this was a bit underestimated, we would recommend to take the tram or taxi. The last part we did by funicular. Once at the top, you have spectacular views of Barcelona city, the beach, port and airport.

The Tibidabo amusement park was established in 1889. There are no modern rides, every attraction is decades old and adds to the ambiance. We took some very interesting pictures but didn’t fancy a ride.

Indoor amusement park at Berjaya Time Square, Kuala Lumpur

The Berjaya building and shopping centre is so big, it is hard to believe. The outdoor pictures in front of the monorail station give you an impression. The building has an older appearance but inside modern elements like a flashy liquid floor, a hidden forest, modern electronics and an extreme gothic shop for which you need to be a member.

On the fifth floor they have an indoor amusement park with some traditional carnival rides. The main attraction is a two lift hill roller coaster with several inversions. Who would expect such a thrill ride in a shopping centre?

Popeye Village or Sweethaven Village, Mellieha

Most of us know Popeye, Olive and Captain Bluto from cartoons but the movie "Popeye" from 1980 was recorded in Malta at Anchor Bay. Instead of using a normal set, they constructed a small town against the cliffs. When you look at Popeye Village, the blue Post Office jumps out. The role of Popeye was played by the world famous actor Robin Williams.

The set is now used as a fun park. You can reach it by car or with bus 237 from Ghadira. Driving on the narrow roads between the rough hills of Mellieha is fascinating. We frequently stopped to take of pictures of the road, dessert and sea.

What can you do in Popeye Village? Off course visiting the film set, a museum, take a boat ride, play mini golf and during the summer they inflate water attractions in the bay. This is certainly a good day trip with kids in the summer season.

Playing with light at the Malieveld carnival fair, The Hague

I am still learning to optimise the use of my Nikon D7100, my first mirror reflex camera. In my last exercise, I was focussing on shutter speed time for moving objects, to take the pictures below, I have been experimenting with light via ISO and diaphragm.

During the day time, my goal was to have bright colourful pictures of the attractions and people having fun. I was pleased with the end result.

At night, I wanted to have sharp pictures with nice colours. This was also possible although it would have been better when using a tripod. These were all taking while manually holding the camera. It is tricky, each time when I see an opportunity to use my tripod, I don't have it with me. It is not easy to take such an unhandy tripod with you all the time.
