Leaving Uruguay after visiting the Pablo Atchugarry Foundation

This is our last article of Punta del Este before we leave Uruguay, probably forever. It is a country you don’t plan to visit again as a European, it was once in a life time. Mr. Pablo Atchugarry has certainly left a big impressions with his marble sculptures. We particularly liked the blue pieces of art.

Mr. Atchugarry’s villa is incredible and the lake garden is out of this world. His garden is full with art and during the summer, they organize free concerts. This place is a nice example of the richness in Punta del Este. We never expected this in Uruguay.

Dit is ons laatste artikel van Punta del Este vooraleer we Uruguay verlaten, waarschijnlijk voor altijd. Het is een land dat we waarschijnlijk niet meer gaan bezoeken als Europeaan, het is eens in je leven. Dhr. Pablo Atchugarry heeft zeker een grote indruk bij ons nagelaten met zijn marmeren beelden. In het bijzonder vonden we de blauwe exemplaren heel leuk. 

De villa van Dhr. Atchugarry is ongelooflijk en de tuin met meer is onbeschrijflijk. De tuin staat vol kunst en tijdens de zomer worden hier gratis concerten gegeven. Een prachtige plaats die aantoont hoe rijk sommigen in Punta del Este wel zijn. Dit hadden we toch nooit verwacht in Uruguay.

The Punta del Este Parish church and lighthouse

This cozy little church of the Punta del Este parish called Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria looks a bit like a smurfs house. The blue color looks amazing as also the clock tower. In the middle of the arched ceiling hangs a large chandelier. The interior is simple and bright. Just next to the church stands the island lighthouse.

Deze gezellige kleine kerk van de Punta del Este parochie wordt Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria genoemd en ziet er een beetje uit als een smurfenkerk. De blauwe kleur en de kerktoren zien er fantastisch uit. In het midden van het plafond hangt een grote sierluster. Naast de kerk staat de vuurtoren van het schiereiland.

Puerto Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria and sea lions, Punta del Este

The little port for sail boats and yachts called Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria looks a bit chaotic but the green lawn in front of it shows you are in a rich beach location. Around the port there are wooden boardwalks and a pier. A giant anchor shows that ships could also be big. A group tourist is making a sail trip and the women attract attention with their flashy outfits. Such a fuchsia mini dress can never be the right gear for this adventure but who cares.

In front of the Punta del Este skyline you see a series of fisher boats, they are all in port. Sea lions look out of the water to see what’s happening on the dock. Men are cleaning the catch of the day and occasionally throw smaller fish or heads in the water. Down below the sea lions prove themselves as good catchers and are splashing in the water.

De kleine haven voor zeilbootjes en jachten heet Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria en ziet er wat wanordelijk uit maar het groene gras op de voorgrond toont aan dat dit teen rijke strandlocatie is. Rondom de haven is een houten wandelpad gebouw en zelfs een kleine pier. Het reuzenanker toont aan dat schepen ook groot kunnen zijn. Een groepje toeristen maakt een zeiltocht en de vrouwen trekken de aandacht met hun fel gekleurde kledij. Zo’n fuchsia mini jurkje lijkt me toch niet geschikt voor dit avontuur maar zij hebben er lak aan. 

Op de voorgrond van de Punta del Este skyline ligt een reeks vissersboten, ze zijn allen in de haven. Zeeleeuwen kijken uit het water naar boven om te zien wat er op de kade gebeurd. Mannen zijn er vis aan het schoonmaken en gooien er af en toe de kleinere exemplaren en koppen in het water. Beneden bewijzen de zeeleeuwen dat ze goed kunnen vangen en al het water spat op.

Tropical bird watching in Punta del Este

After visiting a museum we went for a walk in the park close by. Just to relax a bit and look for some shade. It was hot that afternoon. Small parrots were playing on the grass and each time we had them in sight to take a picture they changed location. It was almost impossible to approach them for a good shot but one time we were lucky with a green parrot sitting in a tree.

We are however very pleased with the two pictures of a low flying bird. It is amazing to have the different positions of his wings in full flight. Almost like watching TV and freezing the image. Taking these pictures is difficult but we are happy with the result and sharpness.

Na een bezoek aan een museum gingen we wandelen in het nabij gelegen park. Wat ontspannen en schaduw opzoeken, het was een warme namiddag. Kleine papegaaitjes speelden in het gras en iedere keer als we bijna een foto van hen namen vlogen ze naar een andere locatie. Het was bijna onmogelijk een goede foto te maken maar één keer hadden we geluk een groen papegaai te verrassen in een boom. 

We zijn echter heel tevreden met de twee foto's van een laag voorbij vliegende vogel. Het is ongelooflijk dat we de verschillende vleugelposities hebben vastgelegd in volle vlucht. Net als TV kijken en het beeld bevriezen, alleen is het in deze omstandigheden wat moeilijker. We kunnen enkel blij zijn met het resultaat en de scherpte.
