Amazing views of Cartagena des Indes from Popa Hill

Standing at the monastery of Popa Hill and looking towards the city of Cartagena is amazing. You are blown away seeing the old city, the ocean and above all the white skyscrapers of Bocagrande.

Bocagrande reminds of the small district in Buenos Aires but this is a huge metropole. As tourist you can walk on your own in the old city and the outskirts or beach of Bocagrande. When you go deeper into this circle of white towers take a guide.

The picture of the monastery cross, together with the city panorama is by far our favorite shot. Above our head we see birds of prey flying. There are tens of these birds continuously looking down in their hunt.

High profile but low customer satisfaction, restaurant Ulus 29, Istanbul

Restaurant Ulus 29 in Istanbul seems to be all about marketing. It is located at the Ulus park hilltops and the views of the bridges crossing the Bosphorus are breathtaking. We assume this is what you pay for.

From the old city centre of Istanbul to the restaurant is a distance of 10km and the taxi took about 1,5 hours to get there. Traffic was completely blocked like so many evenings in Istanbul. Arriving at the restaurant, staff was haughty and tried to seat us at a table on the terrace while it was extremely cold outside. Even with a small heating above you, it is not pleasant to dine outside in a temperature of less than 10 degrees. We had to refuse 4 times before they took us to a table inside the restaurant.

All tables were extremely close to each other, the waiters could hardly serve you. When they serve the table next to you, they almost sit on our table. Overall, the service was very poor, they forgot to refill the wine, while you were eating they started changing the meat knifes, it was a complete joke.

The plates we selected were of decent quality standards but were presented in a very old fashioned style. Prices were extremely high, some of the plates on the menu were around 100 euro a piece. For this quality and style an absolute disgrace. This is probably why they do not publish their menu and prices on their website. Once you are in the restaurant, the customer is trapped. The wine card was even more expensive.

After the diner, we got the wrong check, than they took the check away again and stamped it that no service was included. The only good things about Ulus 29 are the views. We recommend you never to go there, it is a first class tourist trap.

No helicopter stunts, just simple panoramic views of Rome

Yes, it is warm, mid September 2011 we want to take some shots of the city of Rome from the air. A helicopter is too expensive so we look for high buildings. Our first viewpoint is from the Monumento Vittorio Emanuelle II, a war museum and also the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Our second viewpoint is from the top of Castle Saint Angelo, from the movie Angels and Demons. On the pictures you see many famous monuments like: the Pantheon, the Saint Peter’s Basilica, the Colosseum, the Forum Romana, Piazza Venezia and Monumento Vittorio Emanuelle II. Do you recognise them all?

The colours and spectacular views of Montmartre, Paris

The views of Paris from the top of Montmartre are spectacular. We were lucky it was not too fogy in the morning. We were not alone, even at 09:30 it was already crowded. This is a value tip, it is free of charge and probably one of the best panoramic picture opportunities of Paris. The climb to the hill is not difficult. On your way to Sacré-Cœur you pass many colourful shops selling candy, clothing or souvenirs. The walk downhill in the direction of the metro Lamarck – Caulaincourt was very difficult and steep. The pink café-restaurant could be the place to relax a bit in this colourful part of town.
