The beautiful National library of Austria in Vienna

The National Library of Austria has the largest collection of the country which could be expected. It was built during the 18th century and is more than 200 years old. The most impressive area is the Prunksaal or the State Hall, whiich is almost 300 years old. The books are stored against the walls up to a high altitude, we like the movable staircases to assist rearders in collecting the works they would like to consult. The State Hall contains sculptures, frescoes, wall paintings, arches, and globes. On the roof of the building you see statues and a golden globe. For us this is most likely the most beautiful library we have ever seen.

  1. ...and he carries quite a load on his back! Stunning statues! I enjoy libraries.....since childhood, and in St. Paul, Minnesota I know a library that looks much like the one you posted here! The James J. Hill Library, and they have amazing catwalks that go to higher levels too! Excellent visit for me once again...while stopping by your blog, thank you! Karen

  3. What a stunning building - inside and out. They certainly knew how to build them in those days.

  5. Amazing! It looks like a church or a capitol building!!! Can people still take books out of here, like with a regular library?
