A small town of chalets and flowers in the Austrian Alps, Hintertal

Hintertal is a small village in Austria near to Dienten, the place where we had our hotel. We call it a flower town, everywhere you see chalets decorated with flowers and nice gardens. Above 2500 metres there is still some snow and together with the rainwater coming from the solid alp mountains causes wild water streams or running creeks. This day it was rather fogy which gave me the opportunity to take pictures of flower fields with half visible mountains in the background. The ski lift was closed today but occasionally works during the summer to bring hikers to the top. These days are always announced in advance.

Hintertal is een klein dorpje in Oostenrijk dicht bij Dienten, de plaats waar we ons hotel hadden. Wij noemen het een bloemendorp, overal zie je chalets versierd met bloemen en prachtige tuinen. Boven de 2500 meter ligt er nog wat sneeuw en samen met het regenwater dat van de rotsachtige bergen naar beneden stroomt, krijg je wilde riviertjes en beekjes. Het was een mistige dag wat mij de mogelijk gaf foto’s te maken van bloemvelden met half verborgen bergen op de achtergrond. De skilift was gesloten maar af en toe is deze geopend gedurende de zomer om wandelaars naar de top van de bergen te brengen. Deze dagen worden altijd vooraf aangekondigd..

Views and cemetery from the Pfarrkirche St. Nikolaus, Dienten

In the Alps around Dienten, looking down on the village, there is a small church which was built in 1505. The tower of the Pfarrkirche is only 32 metres high, but the views of the village and the mountains are amazing. The altar is in honour of St. Nicolas and dates from 1660. Around the church there is a cemetery which doesn’t resemble the cemeteries we know from Belgium or The Netherlands. Some graves have their own internal ground for flowers and plants, most crosses are from metal with lots of decorations. There are benches to sit down and enjoy the views of the village.

In de Alpen rond Dienten, neerkijkend op het dorp, staat een kleine kerk die werd gebouwd in 1505. De toren van de Pfarrkirche is slechts 32 meter hoog maar de vergezichten op het dorp en de bergen zijn ongelooflijk. Het altaar is ter ere van Sint Nikolaas en dateert uit 1660. Rond de kerk vind je een kerkhof dat geheel niet vergelijkbaar is met begraafplaatsen in België of Nederland. Sommige graven hebben hun eigen stukje grond voor bloemen en planten, de meeste kruisen zijn van metaal en zwaar versierd. Er staan hier bankjes vanwaar je kan genieten van het zicht op het dorp..
