Celebrity Infinity, the schip of our first cruise

We carefully selected Celebrity for our first cruise. The main reasons to choose this company was their awards for excellence and gastronomy. This ship, the Infinity, has a capacity of 1.950 passengers and 950 staff members. The ship has a several swimming pools, whirlpools, a fitness, good restaurants, a cinema, a theatre with fantastic shows, many bars with live music, wine tasting programs, a casino... It was just a perfect holiday with visits in the Caribbean, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico and the USA. It is almost sure that we are going to book our next cruise with the same company.

We hebben zeer zorgvuldig Celebrity gekozen voor onze eerste cruise. De hoofdredenen hiervoor waren de vele prijzen die ze gewonnen hebben voor beste grote cruise maatschappij en culinaire kwaliteit. Het schip, Infinity, heeft een capaciteit van 1.950 passagiers en 950 personeelsleden. Het schip heeft verschillende zwembaden, massagebaden, een fitness, goede restaurants, een cinema, een theater met fantastische shows, vele bars met live muziek, wijnproeverij, een casino... Het was een perfecte vakantie met bezoeken in de Caribbean, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico en de V.S.. Het is bijna zeker dat we terug een cruise gaan boeken met deze maatschappij.

The New Turtle Farm, Grand Cayman

We went to Boatswain's beach to the turtle farm where they breed turtles. The weight of the biggest turtles is around 300 kg. There are 6.000 turtles in the farm, you can hold and touch the cute little ones. Don't put your hands in a pond with big ones or they will hold and touch you. Some of the species are really dangerous.

We hebben de schildpadden boerderij bezocht op Boatswain's strand waar men een kweekprogramma heeft. Het gewicht van de grootste schildpadden is ongeveer 300 kg. Ze hebben er 6.000 schildpadden, en je kan de leuke kleintjes aaien en vasthouden. Steek je hand niet in een vijver met grote schildpadden want dan gaan zij je op een minder vriendelijke manier vasthouden. Sommige soorten zijn zeer gevaarlijk..

United Church in Grand Cayman

This church was one of the houses we saw first when arriving in Georgetown. We had an appointment at the turtle farm but decided we had to pay it a visit on our way back to the pier. Compared to all churches we have visited in the world, this is a very small one. As well the exterior and interior of the church are white. This is probably a good decision in this warm tropical island. The inside of the church has many wooded elements and gives people a feeling of warmth and cosiness. In the church we met Sue and Richard Trull, elders of the church and we must say they are doing a great job. They invite people in the church and their community, are friendly, open and even offered us a bottle of water. You could feel they are committed and have their heart in the right place. If someone asks me what did you like the most of in this church, my answer will have to be the Trull family. The church itself was also very nice. After signing the guest book we went on our way. Dear Sue and Richard, if you would read this, it was nice meeting you and we wish you all the best with your community.

Deze kerk was één van de eerste huizen die we opmerkten toen we in Georgetown aankwamen. We hadden een afspraak in de schildpaddenboerderij maar besloten op onze weg terug naar de pier een bezoekje te brengen aan deze kerk. In vergelijking met alle kerken die we in de wereld bezocht hebben is dit een zeer kleine. Zowel de buitenkant en de binnenkant van de kerk zijn wit. Dit is waarschijnlijk een goede beslissing voor een warm tropisch eiland. De binnenkant van de kerk heeft veel houten elementen wat de bezoeker een gevoel van gezelligheid en warmte geeft. Hier hebben we Sue en Richard Trull ontmoet, twee ouderlingen van de kerkgemeenschap en het moet vermeld worden, ze doen dit zeer goed. Ze verwelkomen mensen in hun kerk, gemeenschap, zijn vriendelijk, geven tips, en boden ons zelf een flesje koud water aan. Je kon onmiddellijk zien dat ze zeer gemotiveerd zijn en het hart op de juiste plaats hebben. Als iemand me vraagt wat je het beste vond aan deze kerk, dan moet mijn antwoord de Trull familie zijn. De kerk zelf was ook zeer mooi. Na het tekenen van het gastenboek gingen we terug naar het schip. Beste Sue en Richard, als je dit moest lezen, het was leuk je te ontmoeten en we wensen je het allerbeste met je kerkgemeenschap..
