The Friday market of Leuven under the Belfry of the university library

It is very early in the morning and fresh product traders are building up their stands on the Ladeuzeplein. The Belfry of the famous university library looks down on the market which gradually attracts more visitors. Careful for the steps however, the square is built on a small slope and occasionally you need to go up or down one level. They sell all possible fresh products like fish, meat, vegetables, fruit, bread, barbeque chicken, prepared burgers, cheese and many more. Some stands go for other consumables like cleaning products, clothing, flowers, music, books… It is always fun to walk through the charming market and listen how merchants try to offer the services to interested customers. The market trade exists for centuries and we hope will never disappear. It is more charming than a hypermarket store.

Het is zeer vroeg in de ochtend en de handelaren bouwen hun kramen op aan het Ladeuzeplein. Het belfort van de universiteitsbibliotheek kijkt neer op de markt die langzaam bezoekers aantrekt. Opgelet voor de trappen, want het plein ligt op een kleine helling en op verschillende plaatsen dien je een kleine stap naar boven of beneden te nemen. Men verkoopt er allerlei verse producten zoals vis, vlees, groenten, fruit, brood, gebraden kip, broodjes hamburger, kaas en nog veel meer. Sommige handelaren bieden andere koopwaar aan zoals schoonmaakmiddelen, kleding, bloemen, muziek of boeken. Het is altijd gezellig langs de kraampjes te wandelen en te luisteren hoe de venters hun producten aan de man brengen. Het marktkramers beroep bestaat reeds eeuwen en we hopen dat het nooit zal verdwijnen. Het is veel charmanter dan het winkelen in een grootwarenhuis..

Liebfrauenkirche, the oldest church in the region of Koblenz

The Roman church was built in the late 12th century, so the church is more than 800 years old. On the same spot there stood several other churches with the first one from the 4th century. The twin towers at the front of the church are in a different style as the main ship. The interior is simple and the ceiling has amazing arches decorated with wooden frames. The combination of broken white with brown colours gives a warm feeling to the church. On the first floor, in front of the fire glass you see a great organ. A unique church.

Deze Romaanse kerk werd gebouwd in de laat 12de eeuw en is dus meer als 800 jaar oud. Op dezelfde plaats stonden verschillende andere kerken waaronder de oudste uit de 4de eeuw. De dubbele toren aan de voorkant van de kerk zijn in een andere stijl als het schip. Het interieur is eenvoudig en het plafond heeft ongelooflijke booggewelven met een houten raamwerk. De kleuren combinatie van gebroken wit met bruin zorgt voor een warm gevoel in de kerk. Op het eerste verdiep, net voor het sierraam staat een groot orgel. Een echt unieke kerk..

Ballroom Dancing keeps you young even at the age of 94, Mathilda Klein

Today, I received a video on my FaceBook account from a dance friend. He was sending a truly amazing video that I want to share here with you all on our blog. It features a quickstep (foxtrot) show of Mathilda Klein (age 94) and professional dancer Danny Maloney. It is unbelievable she is still so fit at the age of 94. Just fantastic.

Vandaag kreeg ik van een dansvriend een video toegestuurd op FaceBook. Hij publiceerde een link van een ongelooflijk dans video die ik met jullie wil delen op onze blog. Het is een Quickstep show van Mathilda Klein, die 94 jaar oud is met professionele danser Danny Maloney. Het is gewoon ongelooflijk dat dit nog mogelijk is op 94 jarige leeftijd. Fantastisch.
