Best airplane spotting in the world, Maho Beach, St. Maarten

When you like swimming, sun, parties and airplanes, this is the place of your dreams. Maho Beach has all the spectacular elements to make your beach day a great adventure. Each time we are in St. Maarten we spend a day here.

From the Sunset Bar we enjoy the music, beer and swimming. Above us, we see the small planes landing. Occasionally, a large plane arrives. Everyone waves, shouts and takes pictures.

When the Boeing 747 of KLM departs, the pilots are waving back to the beach before driving to their position to take off. Don't stay behind the Jetstream of the large planes because the force will throw you into the sea.

Als je van zwemmen, zon, feestjes en vliegtuigen houdt, is dit de plaats van jouw dromen. Maho Beach heeft alle spectaculaire elementen om van uw stranddag een groot avontuur te maken. Iedere keer dat we in St. Maarten zijn gaan we een dagje naar dit strand. 

Van op het terras van de Sunset Bar genieten we van de muziek, een biertje en het zwemmen. Boven en naast ons zien we de kleine vliegtuigen landen. Af en toe komt er ook een heel groot vliegtuig aan. Iedereen roept, zwaait en neemt foto's. 

Wanneer de Boeing 747 van KLM vertrekt, wuiven de piloten naar iedereen op het strand vooraleer hun startpositie in te nemen. Blijf niet achter de motoren staan, want de druk van grote vliegtuigen gooit je gegarandeerd in de zee.

Champagne on the helipad, watching Allure of the Seas in St. Maarten

The Allure of the Seas is a ship of the Royal Caribbean Oasis class and has a maximum capacity of 6.400 passengers. It is one of the biggest cruise ships of the world. As Elite Plus members of Celebrity Cruises, we were invited for a glass of champagne on the helicopter path of the Eclipse.

From here we are going to experience the departure out of the port of St. Maarten, most likely our favorite port of the Caribbean. The Allure of the Seas is just incredible. The height of the ceilings and size of the suites are impressive. What a ship.

In the port we also saw some exclusive yachts. These must be from very rich people. There were five major cruise ships in port and this is not surprising given the facilities available on the island.

De Allure of the Seas van de Royal Caribbean Oasis klasse heeft een maximum capaciteit van 6.400 passagiers. Het is één van de grootste cruise schepen ter wereld. Als Elite Plus leden bij Celebrity Cruises, waren we uitgenodigd op het helikopterpad voor een glas champagne tijdens de afvaart.

Van hier uit konden we volop genieten van het afscheid van St. Maarten, één van onze favoriete Caribische eilanden. De Allure of the Seas is ongelooflijk. De hoogte en grote van de suites zijn indrukwekkend. Wat een cruise schip. 

In de haven zagen we ook enkele exclusieve jachten. Dit moeten toch heel rijke mensen zijn. Er waren vijf grote cruise schepen in de haven en dit was niet verrassend daar het eiland heel veel te bieden heeft.

Spectacular paragliding from the Wallberg to Tegernsee

No, we didn't do this ourselves. Arriving at the top of the Wallberg, we saw several people with paragliding gear. A bit further, was the departing area. Everyone was putting on their warm clothing and more important a glider.

It is hard to imagine how many ropes are connected to the sail. Probably very difficult to keep it organised. When ready, they start running from the mountain slope. Making speed and catching the air stream to lift. Here they go on an adventure with fantastic views on the Tegernsee lake.

Nee, we deden dit niet zelf. Toen we op de bergtop aankwamen zagen we enkele mensen met hun paragliden uitrusting. Iets verder, was het lanceergebied. Iedereen trok zijn warme kledij aan en nog belangrijker hun paraglider. 

Het is moeilijk voor te stellen hoeveel touwen er verbonden zijn met het zeil. Waarschijnlijk heel zwaar om dit onder controle te houden. Eens klaar, beginnen ze de berg af te lopen. Snelheid nemen en de luchtstroom om op te stijgen. Ze beginnen aan een avontuur met fantastische zichten op het Tegernsee meer.
