The glory of Bavaria, Siegestor Munich

The “Siegestor” or the victory arch is located on the Ludwigstrasse very close to the beautiful Ludwigs church. Nice to visit both place of interest in one go. The monument was erected in 1852 for the glory of Bavaria and to honour the Bavarian army. The statue on the top of the monument displays Bavaria with her fighting lions. The sculptures in the walls and the finishing of the columns are on a detailed and high quality standard. Like many of the Munich historical buildings, they are restored and properly maintained. Standing in front of the victory arch, facing the city centre, you can shoot a picture of the Siegestor together with the “Theatinerkirche” and the famous city hall belfry. Munich is a city full of excellent photo opportunities, it is only a pity it was rather cloudy that day.

Net zoals zo vele andere gerestaureerde historische gebouwen in München blijft men aandacht geven aan onderhoud.
