La Boca is a small and very colorful district but also the poorest and toughest area of Buenos Aires. We would recommend only to visit it with a guided tour or from on the Hop-on Hop-off bus like we did. Don't go into the area on your own at any time during the day. The risks of getting robbed or assaulted are extremely high.
We had to hold back not to visit the Caminito streets by ourselves but are happy we used our common sense by just riding by it. Gangs with young men shout and display aggressive behavior when the tourist bus passes by, there are many homeless and drug addicts. Some cars are completely destroyed. It was an adventure to drive through La Boca but don't get out of the car or bus without a local guide.
Met het Wereldkampioenschap is voetbal wereldwijd terug tot leven gekomen. Maar hier in de Boca was het niet anders over de laatste 100 jaar. De Boca Juniors zijn het beste voetbalteam van het land en spelen in het geel blauwe Bombonera stadium. Ze wonnen reeds 50 nationale titels en zijn een succesvol internationale ploeg. Voetbal is de meest populaire sport van Argentinië.
La Boca is een klein en kleurvolle wijk maar ook het armste en gewelddadigste gebied van Buenos Aires. We bevelen je aan enkel deze wijk onder begeleiding te bezoeken of op de Hop-On Hop-Off bus te blijven zitten zoals wij hebben gedaan. Loop hier ook niet tijdens de dag niet alleen rond. De kans dat je wordt beroofd of aangevallen is extreem hoog.
We hebben ons toch moet inhouden de Caminito straten niet door te wandelen maar zijn blij dat we ons gezond verstand hebben gebruikt. Bendes met jonge mannen vertonen agressie als de toeristenbus voorbij rijdt en je ziet regelmatig daklozen en drugsverslaafden. Sommige auto’s zijn volledig vernietigd. Het was een avontuur door de Boca te rijden maar ga niet alleen op onderzoek uit.
