Metal at the Modern Art museum of Cartagena

Art is different for everyone, this museum focusses on pieces with metal. Metal sculptures of modern cubicles, people playing chess, farmers cutting their crop, a garbish collector and many more. In de first hall an artist placed pictures partially on the floor and the wall composed out of individual CD boxes making one big image.

There were also some daring pieces like a man crawling into a large snail house and a movie of a person cutting his bush to perfection, at the end you see it is a tomb.

Kunst is verschillend voor iedereen, dit museum concentreert zich op metalen kunstwerken. Metalen beelden tonen ons moderne kubussen, schakers, boeren die hun oogst kappen, een vuilnisman en nog veel meer. In de eerste hal stonden foto's opgemaakt met cd hoesjes, gedeeltelijk op de vloer en de muren. 

Er waren ook enkele gedurfde stukken zoals een man die uit een slakkenhuis kruipt of er in gevangen zit. Op een film zien we een man een struik snoeien, achteraf wordt het duidelijk dat dit een graf voorstelt.

Museum Del Reial Cercle Artistic, Barcelona

In this museum which looks a bit like a fortress are two exhibition areas. On the ground floor there was a permanent collection of Salvador Dali. At the entrance you see a full size Dali with a small dolphin on his head, a bit further stands a giant egg. Dali seems like a strange man with a large imagination.

In the courtyard stand several pieces of art in bronze and statues. The first floor gave free entrance to an exhibition of Spanish painters. There were some very good works and we really enjoyed this visit to the Cercle Artistic.

Dit museumgebouw met zijn twee tentoonstellingsruimtes lijkt een beetje op een fort. Op het gelijkvloers is er een permanente exhibitie van Salvador Dali. Bij de inkom staat een levensgrote poster van Dali met een kleine dolfijn op zijn hoofd, iets verder een reuze ei. Dali leek me een rare kerel met grote verbeelding. 

Een binnen koertje is verrijkt met bronzen kunstwerken en enkele standbeelden. Op het eerste verdiep was er een tentoonstelling van Spaanse schilders. Niettegenstaande de inkom gratis was, hingen er veel mooie werken. We waren heel tevreden van ons bezoek aan de Artistieke Groep.

Fountains and the National Theatre on Rossio Square, Lisbon

Some people wonder what to do in Lisbon? Visiting Rossio Square should certainly be on your to do list. It is a beautiful place with two giant bronze fountains and the National Theatre. In the middle of the Square stands a tall column with the statue of King Pedro IV. The column seems to be a popular resting place for pigeons.

Rossio Square is also a gathering area for locals; people come here to enjoy the sun, a restaurant, a bar or just shopping in the connecting streets. Also here on this historical square we see that it is difficult to maintain houses in their original state. It is expensive and some can no longer afford it.

Sommigen vragen zich af wat te doen in Lissabon? Een bezoekje aan het Rossioplein moet zeker op je verlanglijstje staan. Het is een prachtig plein met twee enorme bronzen fonteinen en het Nationaal Theater. In het midden van het plein staat een hoge zuil met de beeltenis van Koning Pedro IV. De zuil lijkt een heel populaire rustplaat voor duiven. 

Het Rossioplein is ook geliefd bij de lokale bevolking, mensen komen hier genieten van de zon, een restaurant, een bar of gewoon om te winkelen in een aanpalende straat. Op dit historisch plein kan men zien hoe moeilijk het is huizen in hun originele staat te bewaren en het onderhoud goed te plegen. Het is gewoon duur en sommige mensen kunnen zich dit niet langer veroorloven.

Sculptures of Irénéé Duriez at the St. Rochus church, Blankenberge

On the square in front of the Saint Rochus church we saw a series of beautiful bronze statues made by the Belgian artist Irénéé Duriez. Most of his statues display young elegant female models. On his site, he explains that the shape of the body and muscles can be replicated by touching them. He feels with his hands the shape of the body parts and than recreates the shape in bronze by remembering the real shape of body by feeling and touching the bronze materials. We add a link to Mr. Duriez's website for reader who would like to known more of his art.

We also visited the St. Rochus church which has a nice clock tower. Jesus looks down on the square and the work of Irénéé Duriez. The church has a big ship with lots of light falling into the center. The arches as well as the gallery on the first floor reflect a yellow shine. The full length of the church holds stained glass windows. We didn’t go further into the church to the altar because a family was baptising there child.

Op het kerkplein voor de Sint Rochuskerk zien we een reeks mooie bronzen beelden gemaakt door de Belgische beeldhouwer Irénéé Duriez. De meeste van zijn werken beelden jonge elegante vrouwen uit. Op zijn site legt hij uit dat de vorm van het lichaam en de spieren kunnen worden nagemaakt door ze te voelen en aan te raken. Door middel van de gevoelsherinnering vormt hij het bronzen materiaal met zijn handen. We voegen een link toe naar de website van Irenee Duriez voor mensen die meer willen weten over zijn kunst. 

Daarna hebben we ook de Sint Rochuskerk bezocht met zijn mooie kloktoren. Van op deze toren kijkt Jezus neer op het plein en de werken van Irénéé Duriez. De kerk heeft een groot schip met veel natuurlijk licht. De booggewelven alsook de galerij op het eerste verdiep vertonen een gele gloed. Men vindt er sierglas over de volledige lengte van de kerk. Het was echter niet mogelijk naar het altaar te gaan kijken daar er een doopsel plaatsvond op die dag.
