Support the island of Grenada by visiting Fort George in St. George’s

The fort is about 300 years old but in a poor condition. To reach the entrance, you have to climb a small hill just a few minutes walking from the port. Most walls and buildings are still standing but the fort is in many places invaded by wild grass and flowers. We find this strange because these buildings have been used in recent decades as storage locations and police training area. On the defence walls facing the sea and the bay you find the traditional cannons. The fort is also known as Fort Royal.

Would we recommend cruise passengers to visit this cultural site of Grenada? Yes, you have some nice views at the top of the hill and you support the development of the island with your entrance fee. Grenada is a poor Caribbean island and could use your support.

Het fort is ongeveer 300 jaar oud en in slechte staat. Je kan de ingang bereiken na een kleine heuvelklim gelegen op een paar minuutjes wandelen van de haven. De meeste muren en gebouwen staan nog recht maar onkruid en wilde bloemen zijn het fort binnengedrongen. We vinden dit raar daar deze plaats de laatste decennia werd gebruikt als opslagplaats en politie trainingsgebied. Op de verdedigingsmuren staan de traditionele kanonnen gericht op de baai en haven. Het fort wordt ook Fort Royal genoemd. 

Kunnen wij cruise passagiers een bezoek aan Fort George aanbevelen? Ja, je hebt enkele mooie vergezichten boven op deze heuvel en je steunt de verdere ontwikkeling van het eiland met het kopen van je toegangskaartje. Grenada is een arm Caraïbisch eiland en kan je steun gebruiken..
